I ordered a new machine.

Here's a letter I wrote to Amazon.

"I ordered a machine on the sixteenth, the delivery date range starts tomorrow but the machine is still being prepared for shipping. I opted for free shipping but didn't expect Amazon to sit on the order. The method of shipping is one thing, artificially slowing it down to steer people to pay for higher priced shipping is another.

I know if you're the person reading this, there's a set response and you can't do anything about it, but honestly, there are other places where I can get the same things and they ship by the lowest price the day I place the order and things get here before the expected delivery date. I know Amazon is too big to care what one person does because Amazon runs by working out what the people as group will do and has undoubtedly figured out how to make more money by - again - sitting on orders and steering people toward paying for faster shipping.

All I can do is write you and every website I visit. I don't expect it to change anything but since I find it makes me feel, that's what I'm doing.

Sincerely,

Robert"

The other thing I'm going to do is order from anywhere else when that's possible from now on.

One question:

1) Was the machine you ordered "Sold and Shipped by Amazon," "Sold by _____ and fulfilled by Amazon," or "Sold and shipped by ______"?

If the order was sold and shipped by a vendor other than Amazon themselves, they have little control over what one of their vendors does in terms of sitting on orders vs. getting them shipped right away. You can rate and review that seller publicly through Amazon to warn others about them (similar to eBay's feedback/rating system). For example, Autogeek sells through Amazon Marketplace so when you think you're ordering from just Amazon, you might actually be ordering from AG if you aren't careful.

Personally I've never had a problem with ordering products sold/fulfilled through Amazon, though I did go ahead and subscribe to Amazon Prime so I would get 2-day shipping free on all orders. I bought my DeWalt DWP849X through them and had it at my door promptly.

Just some food for thought.

No mistakes about it, they ABSOLUTELY sit on items with Free Super Saver Shipping. They'll tell you so. Sometimes for over a week. It pays to shop around on best price shipped.

That said, I'm a happy prime member, I get stuff in a day most of the time.

Did their sitting on your orders have anything to do with you guys choosing to enroll in prime?

The machine is sold through Amazon. They are sticking to the terms of the order and it's naive of me to think they'd just do the easy thing when they have an advantage in something else. I should know better than to expect any corporation to act like something they clearly aren't.

Not for me. I order a lot of stuff from Amazon and I also stream shows/movies with it so it was a no brainier. The 2 day shipping is awesome and even if you bump it up to next day it's still dirt cheap. :)

Similar reasons for me, I even have subscriptions to grocery items! Plus you get access to a free Kindle library with Prime. I split the membership with a few family members so it really pays off (though the split is only for shipping, streaming access is only for the primary holder).

Agreed. The variety of products Amazon has, and the fact that in a vast majority of cases their prices are either in line or better than other retailers, made prime very worthwhile.

I just ordered a TV from them on Thursday last week. Free shipping. It arrived today. I thought that was good.

Amazon is usually fast for me. The only time I had a problem was when I pre-ordered a pc game. They shipped it two weeks after the game was released!
