Alright everyone...questions which I am sure has been asked but I didn't find anything under the search close enough to answer my question.

I have a buddy of mine who wants me to detail his GF's car. I have always just done my car and my Gf's car. I clean all the interior and shampoo the carpets and go over everything inside and trunk. Clean the engine bay, and all hinged areas and jams and make them nice. Then for the paint just a wash, clay, maybe a spot correction here and there, then wax. They also want the dealership emblems off the car.

What do I charge? I know when I have done the same for my Gf's car it takes about 6-7 hours till I am truly happy and feel I have done my job. I have seen people do hourly stuff but I just want to tell them X dollars and go from there. Why does the figures between $100 and $150 pop into my head? Is that to much?

thoughts?

Thanks

Joe

I think you should always look at the car to assess the damage first... When I used to do "light" detailing as you just described I would start out at $100 bucks, but if you think the job is worth more than that than charge what you feel it is worth :2thumbs:

thanks! I got to look at the car and over all the outside isnt bad...the stuff there isnt safe to remove in my opinion.

he interior needs some work as her dog barfed on the floors..lol. I am also going to fix her bumper where the adhesive tore and the side of the bumper has a gap and hangs a bit

Dude-I've done the same thing for quite a few friends and their significant others. In fact, it's most of my amateur career....LOL

$100 is just a great solid figure for doing a full days work for a friend's car. For me, I look at it as practice and perfecting the fundamentals. I do it on a weekend or day off the normal job with some tunes playing, a short lunch break and take a few photos. Even if you exclude the engine detail and just make eveything else look great, $100 is still a fair price.

You being a non-pro and describing the work to be done, i would look for $20 an hour and expect the work you described to take longer than the 6-7 hours you described.

Pricing is always the hardest thing to decide on. It sounds to me like you have a great attention to detail if the car takes 6-7 hours with minor paint correction. I would think for that kind of work $100 would be to cheap...I was thinking $150-$175, could be a bit much for a friend though.

I usually charge $100 for family $120 for friends. I also make sure to remind them that my regular charge is a minimum of $150. A lot of my friends are damn cheap so they think $100 is a lot....and their cars are usually trashed.....and my in laws live off a dirt road. Great bargains for them in my opinion. The problem is that I do at least 1 family car a week and that leaves me 1 day to do other peoples cars.
