Ok guys ,

Im new here and yes I did a search on PC's but couldnt come up with anything PC 7424 ??maybe.. Ive been using a Vector brand in the past but our autozone has not had any pads in stock for a while (7")

Ive been here in the past and read about the PC's .Im wanting to know which one would be best for a newby like myself.I can use the D/A pretty decent on my new Passat but its white ,Im getting my 92 Corrado back on the road and its in need of some love.Having finding myself outside cleaning the Passat all I can ,Im in need of something better then the vector :down

and Meguiars can kiss my butt for their 250 dollar model

also what is a good dirt xtractor or carpet cleaner?? the foam cleaners seem to work good ,but I seem to spend alot of money in towels getting the previous owners ignorance out of the carpet :sosad Im not a profesional ,just seem to enjoy having the cleanest car in our little town ,and watching a storm role in and the pearl white turning to silver :xyxthumbs

Thanks for any help for this newby :wavey

Mike ,

The Porter Cable 7424 or 7336 or 7335. The only difference in them is the counter weight. The 7336SP has the same counter weight as the 7424 and includes the polishing pad. You can pick it up at Lowes Home Center for $109. A 10 year old can learn to use any of these models with out any direction ;) . BTW the 7424 I beleive is the same model Meguiars sells under thier name.

Exactly how much better are these PCs than regular orbital buffers? I know they are somewhat better, I have a Black and Decker 7" and a Walmart something or other 9" r.o buffers. Is the PC enough of an upgrade to justify it? I'll happily spend the money if it is, but I don't want to waste it if it is not that much better than what I have already????

I'm not sure about your Black and Decker buffer, but there is a huge difference between my PC and my friend's Waxmaster. The Waxmaster had a harder time removing defects, was extremely uncomfortable to work with(though I was gonna break out in hives the vibrations were so bad), very limited pad selection and not to mention my friend's broke. The piece holding the pad is messed up so you have to hold pressure on it to keep it down, which is pretty dangerous. My PC is great, I always read everyone saying its 1 of the best investments, and I can say that too confidentally. Its extremely easy to work with, huge pad selection, I get desired results and feel very confident in the way its built(haven't read any threads on a broken PC on Autopia or DC). You gotta ask yourself if your getting the results you want? If it works good and you don't have any problems(like my friend did) then I really don't see a NEED to upgrade maybe a WANT though.

Well after trying to find pads for my 7" vector, not to mention it doesnt have any kind of foam backing to it.I say this is a definite need for me.

Ive read to many great things about the PC ,and pad selection is abundant. Now that Meguiars has theres out the local Wal-Mart and autozone even have a couple pads in stock.

Dont get me wrong ,in the right hands the D/A or rotory's have been doing good for years.I can do our white car up decent with one ,but who's to say Im not tearing the paint up without even knowing it.I have an eggplant colored car to that I will not put the D/A near for sure..

All in all Its a 109 dollar insurance policy for my paint job, will only get used 4 times a year.At the rate some moonlighting detailers charge around here Ive already saved 100 in a year.

Plus there is nothing like standing back and watching your car shine!!! and knowing that you did that yourself :xyxthumbs

Just a little on why I bought one..

will be in this week,Im going to unleesh it on a dealer preped loaner car that has been burnt, has oxidizing paint and so on..

..................

Any sugestions on a carpet cleaner??anybody??

Mike,

Well I'm seriously considering purchasing one, I just want ot know if it is enough of an upgrade from what I have to make it worth it. The 9" I got at Walmart is crap, but hte B&D has given years of good service applying and removing wax. Just not so sure it's up to serious polishing, and I'm thinking of going into detailing on the side professionally, after learning a little more.

I got mine, used, on ebay two yrs. ago for about $50. I only use it three or so times a yr. so I not gonna wear it out.

I just looked and they have the PC 7336 for a good price.

Search "Porter Cable Sander"

Good luck...
