I might not be detailing anymore...

I was rear ended about 2 weeks ago on the highway and after getting hit my car was pushed to the car in front of me. We were slowing down due to traffic/congestion and when I looked in my rearview mirror, I see this car flying. I was hoping she would stop and when I knew she was going to hit me, I just held on to the steering wheel. I couldn't go to the left shoulder because there was no shoulder room and there was a car to the right side of me. I know people say you should try to stay relax but normal instinct made me braced myself for the impact.

Her car was totaled, the car I hit had some bumper damaged and my car ended being totaled as well. I had MRI taken and also had x-ray taken for my neck and back. The MRI showed that I have a couple of disc bulge and 1 herniated disc on my neck. X-ray revealed that my neck bones are almost straight and not curved properly.

They are trying to get me back into shape and said I might need another MRI after 4 weeks to see if the injury lessens or if I'm going to need more treatment.

I was told to stop detailing and not to do any strenuous activities like sports and such. I was devastated when I heard that. I love sports and always wanted to play sports with my 2 year old when he grows old. I also love detailing cars and it's now a part of my livelihood. I have 6-7 clients that are waiting to have their car detailed and I am starting to get calls because i started distributing my business cards. This is a real bummer. I was hoping to make this business grow when I get steady customers and maybe have my own detailing shop/garage in the long run.

I was told the herniation is permanent and might get worse as I grow older. I don't want to end up taking shots in my back or worse get a surgery. I'm hoping I'd get better soon and go on with my life like I wanted it to be. Thanks for listening guys. Be careful out there and thank God for seatbelts!

So Sorry to hear Richard :( Without your health the rest of it doesn't matter ... rest up, do what is needed to recover ...even if surgery is needed it's not that bad compared to years past ...we'll be  for you :bigups

Sorry to hear about your accident. Think positively. Any accident you can walk away from is just a temporary bump in the highway of life (don't that just sound cheesy :)). But who knows for certain what the future holds. Some people walk again that were told they would never. If you are a young man, and you follow the directions of the physical therapist(s) who knows what you will be doing down the road.

Good luck. Do physical therapy and work to get better. The doctors can be wrong. You decide your limitations.

Sorry.

Listen to the doctors (provided he is board certified)

I have 2 blown discs in my back. Dr. got me to a good physical therapist, and I can do pretty much anything. But it does go out once in a while. Except those, as I said I can do pretty mcuh anything.

Hello Richard,

Sorry to hear about your accident and hope all will go well. Your dreams aren't shot over this, i know that you love detailing and want your own business, but this may be a way to get just that. Get a great Liar / Lawyer and sue the pants off of the people that caused this grief in your life. I hope the pain that your feeling soon gets livable again.

Good Luck,
Maknmony

Trust the Doctors but also trust yourself. If you firmly believe you will play sports with your child when he/she reaches age two then you will. If you don't believe that then you won't. Trust in Our Father and trust in yourself along with good medical assistance. Sound corny? Maybe so but try it, you will see that it works. GODSPEED to your healing.

Thanks guys! It really means a lot.

I am getting treatment now and in a couple of weeks I will get another MRI if needbe to check my injuries.

I feel bad for my wife because she is worried sick. I just keep telling her that it'll be better soon. I'll keep you guys posted.

Best wishes for a full recovery. You'd be amazed at how resilient the human body is. I'm sure with some dedicated PT and a positive attitude, you'll be fine in a bit. Keep your head up man!!

And it will be better - no doubt. As you've seen from the responses, there's lots of us here that deal with herniations, bulging discs, etc. I've had 4 back surgeries so I speak from experience... lol.

FWIW - herniations are not permanent. Any doc that told you that is a doc you should consider not seeing again. There's lots of documented cases where R&R actually reversed a herniation - and R&R + therapy is the only proper way to treat bulging discs. The human body can do amazing things. Some are certainly more severe then others, but herniation itself is not a permanent condition.

Whatever happens, best of luck to you.

Richard I am sorry to hear this happened. I will def keep you in my prayers. Make sure you rest your back and its hard but listen to the Docs.

This may not be as bad as you think repairing a herniated disc is not that big of a deal now days.
Mine were so bad that I had 4 discs replaced on June 17th repairing a bulge in a disc is done all the time just check around and get a good surgeon.
