I love dealership carwashes and body shop hacks

I guess I love how busy they keep me.

Client tells dealership as always, "Don't wash it!" They do.

Dealership wants to use their local bodyshop to correct it.

Client agrees but only if they will pay his detailer (me) to fix it if they can't.

Needless to say the car is at my house.

I hope to have it done sometime Wednesday. :nervous2:

I guess what is endlessly amusing about this kind of thing, is here is the dealer, who is selling you the second largest item you will ever buy, and they are completely clueless about how to wash/maintain. Think about the bizarro world of the dealer telling you "look, you have to be very careful about how you wash this car, it is clearcoated and is 'scratch sensitive'. If you are careless it will take so much more effort to correct it than to swirl it. But if that happens, bring it back here and we will fix it, if you haven't permanently damaged it."

it's amazing how some treat vehicles (the 2nd largest investment one will make) these days but yet, they would treat things of lesser value/cost alot better...

That's what I'm saying, people would be more PO'd if the drycleaner messed up their $50 shirt than if the dealer messed up their $50,000 car...and honestly, I think the drycleaner knows more about cleaning shirts and would be more apologetic about it than the dealer.

Here is the thread when I polished it 1 year ago. Those before pics where 20 months since I had last polished it. Client had made major improvements to his washing process in the last year, so he was not happy at all. I will do my best to bring that smile back to his face.

*Exact* same story with that black G35 sedan that we did last week--well, except they tried it in house instead of farming it out to a body shop. :D

That's too bad. Can't say it's a suprise though. I do recon for a dealership, I like to think I'm an exception to the dealership "hacks" that are indeed quite common. But I cringe on a daily basis watching guys wash cars with brushes, 3 week old wash mitts and just being utterly stupid and careless in general. Just call it job security :)

Haha, hey, if it puts money in your pocket, and the client gets a pro detail with correction for free, then that sounds like win win to me. :woot2:

As far as 3 week old wash mitts go, I'm assuming that you mean not maintained over those 3 weeks? I'm going on using my genuine lambswool one for about a month now and it's still in great shape. No discoloration, not deterioration, and still feels extremely soft.

This is the first genuine lambswool mitt I've ever used, so maybe that's just common for this kind of mitt? I've always rinsed it, never dropped it, and air dried it.

I've definitely had some MF mitts that have just gotten gross after a few weeks though so I know how that goes.

Thanks for letting me stop by, Bryan! It was great to meet you finally and to see this process in action. It still amazes me that this correction is possible with a PC. Good stuff :bigups

When I bought my Saturn, I asked the owner (whom I dealt with) if their detailer was good, because I didn't want him boogering up a brand new Black Onyx vehicle. He guaranteed me that his guy was good, so I agreed to allow him to detail it before picking it up. The owner was right...his guy detailed near flawlessness. The only thing was an area about 1'x2' that had very very light holograms on it. I just took care of that with the PC in about 2 minutes. I guess this is an exception to what most people experience.

Ok I kind of get what the KBM is but who the hell is Kevin Brown?

The man that changed the face of detailing. :nixweiss

Brian, Thanks for stopping by and lending a hand for a few hours. So when are you going to get that PC on order? :)

It was my pleasure to show you the KBM! :xyxthumbs

Guys, you should see Brian's E320. It looks like it has about 25k miles on it, but I saw the odometer w/ 261k on it. :cooleek:
