it saddens me to have to admit this, but my paint is in pretty bad condition :(....i gotta say i am one of those people that takes pictures of the car at its good angles :nervous:...but since i dont have school for another month and i recently quit my job im ready to give the trouble spots the attention they need, here they are:

Is that oxidation?

those are clouds, but what you cant see is the same crap that is on the mirror, and you can see some swirls in the bottom left :furious:

I think this one speaks for itself :scared:

now i have my PC with sonus pads (blue, green, orange) and a couple meguiar's soft buff's....the strongest polish i have is 3M FI2MP, and i dont have a chemical cleaner, do you think FI2 will be able to take care of those trouble spots?....but i still think its a long shot on the spider infestation i have on the front of the car :hairpull

any help is appreciated

My opinion on the mirror is that the paint is a goner. I'm assuming that's a GM plastic mirror...I asked about this once before and the theory I liked is that due to the poorer thermal conductivity of the the plastic vs. the sheetmetal of the rest of the car, the paint on the plastic mirrors (and spoilers, etc.) gets hotter than the rest of the paint, causing it to fail first. Both of my mirrors on my '90 Pontiac have failed paint (the one that was repainted shortly after I got the car actually lasted much longer), and the spoiler is going now, too.

As was noted above, not really anything to do for that crazing on the urethane, either.

well, my brother is a painter and works at a body shop :D...but still it isnt gonna get painted for a while, hes backed up deep with other projects....only the front of the car is like this, its weird...but its been outside for 13 years straight, with 136k miles, and pretty sure a neglectful previous owner(s) its seen its fair share of bad treatment and i think its life is coming to a close lol

Well, you could try a paint cleaner on the mirror. Maybe it's oxidation. It really looks like failed clearcoat, though. But it's worth a try. If you can't remove it, try to keep it well waxed as this may slow or stop the spread of it considerably.

To some degree, older paint just probably won't look as good as newer paint. The 'vette has been garaged its whole life afaik. And the paint is pretty nice looking. But comparing it to the Aurora, no way. The Aurora has much glossier shinier paint. I think the 'vette will get a bit better but probably not a ton. It's just older paint. :)

the guys at my bro's body shop said the car was repainted, a bad job at that....and they used crappy paint, probably a maaco specialty....so me and the bro are gonna start prepping it for paint pretty soon :D
