This could have been a VERY sad story.

One day I went out to the garage and noticed a soft spot on the end of my air compressor hose. A few days later I noticed the soft spot had grown to be about twice the size it is in the photo. It was a bubble in the hose lining. I told myself that I needed to "get to that" someday.



About a week later I found the end of my hose, with a big brass fitting attached, sitting on top of the spoiler of my Carrera. AHHHHHHH! It obviously split and 'sploded' off and somehow bounced up on the Porsche. It appears to have hit nothing else. No damage anywhere. I am taking this as a sign and will be going to church on Sunday to say thanks.

I thought about just getting a clamp on repair fitting but in the end decided that a new quality Goodyear hose was in order. I now have 100' of new rubber. I can reach well outside my garage now and reach cars in the courtyard outside my garage. Cool.

Years ago I bought the cheaper hose for my compressor, stiff when cold, etc.

Cheap sob I am, just put up with it.

Then, I bought the big Puma compressor and little bubbles in the hose started to show, then slow leaks.

Enough was enough, after all I had went so far at to change all the fittings to brass, etc, so did as you, got the good Goodyear, only mine is yellow in color.

Went with it as it shows up when on the floor when I am using it and at my age, don't need to be tripping and breaking a hip!

Oh man... yeah, that is pretty lucky!



I'm thinking my next hose will be one of the neon green Flexzilla ones that doesn't get stiff in any weather.... but in the meantime my black Goodyear hose like yours works just fine.

Do you not turn of the compressor and relieve pressure from the lines when it's not in use? I do that every time I'm done using it. ;)

No, I don't. It takes so long to fill back up and it's too loud. So it stays charged.



I often thought about putting it up in the attic for the noise issue, but then I have to worry about heat and cold affecting the unit.

I hadn't heard of the Flexilla. It sounds cool. I got mine at Harbor Freight...cheap. Used my 20% off coupon and picked up another free flashlight. I have like 10 of them now! :)

I don't drain the tank, just the lines beyond the shut off valve. ;)

I first heard about them from a painter friend who loves them for use in the booth.
 
I just turn the ball valve off that feeds the line, water trap and pressure control when I am done.

Once every two weeks, I drain off the tank of any moisture after shutting off the power and a drain of the air from the tank, down to 40lb or so.

Never, ever forget to drain the water out of the air tank at least once a month!

Most do, but then most don't use their compressor's for other than their hobby, and for painting.

When I am shooting paint, first thing I do, automatically is drain the tank, drain the water trap, check the air pressure contol valve coming out of the tank and I even have another pressure control gauge on a quick coupler, as the air line comes into the gun.

These new Low VOC guns and materials, don't look kindly on water or non-consistant air pressure.

I run the 3/4" 75ft version of the Flexzilla hose, along with Prevost high flow couplers. The combination of both really gives the tools a lot of extra power.



The Flexzilla hoses are great. Even in the winter and at 150psi, they still remain flexible.
 
Brad B.- Yikes, SO glad it didn't turn out awful!



My one water hose is starting to fail (from my boosted pressure) so I think I'll take this as a cosmic-warning type of thing and replace it *right now* before it launches a foamgun into my car or something.



And yeah, I'm glad my burned-in-routine is to turn off the compressor and clear the lines after I'm finished with it. Like Ron Ketcham, I went all overkill on my fittings/filters/etc. and my start up/shut-down procedures have been the same for, gee...thirty-some years.
