I was working on thoroughly cleaning my trunklid today, and i had set my ziploc bowl of clay on my work table and i guess the lid was not on very tight because the wind blew it off and all my clay hit the ground. What an awful ordeal : (. I had some megs quikclay in there that i hadnt even gotten the chance to use. This sucks.

Anyone wanna trade some clay for dacp?

I know the feeling, I droped my first clay bar and then had to wait another week before I could buy any more.

Your doing the right thing - bin it

Did the whole bar get contaminated?

I would have taken a sharp knife and excised the contaminated layer of clay off the bar, exposing a nice fresh surface.

ya, i had 3 pieces, 2 megs and one clay magic, it all hit the ground, i just played it safe and threw it all out, as much as that hurt to do. :(

For that exact reason, I try to keep a new bar of clay around just in case. It sucks to delay a detail due to that....

Gonzo is of course completely correct. I was not able to do this as I very skillfully managed to stand on the clay and embed all the dirt into the then flattened clay :(

Everytime I clay I think about dropping it on the ground.Once you drop it its useless SMART MOVE tossing it

and when working with clay it's a good idea to place an old sheet under your work area :) this way you wont have to toss the bar

The potential for dropping (especially on vertical surfaces) is one of the reasons I like to cut my clay bar up into little pieces and discard them as I use them instead of folding over the entire bar. If I drop a piece...no big deal as the whole bar is not trashed.

isn't it possible to use the claybar for the windows or other parts that isn't paint?

Yep, as stated before, its excelet on glass and rims.

If you were refering to using a clay bar that has hit the ground on those areas, then no, I wouldnt do it. Clay gets REALLY dirty when it hits the ground, and I think your glass/rims would get scratched if the clay was then used on them.

I know you should throw away a droped clay bar but if it was new I would pick out all the stones ect and trim it like a block cheese with a sharp knife (like Gonzo0903 suggested)

If it had been used a few times or was really dirty, then yes its going in the bin.

Its a judgement call,if the was any doubt that the grit/contaminants were out of the clay then its not worth damaging the paint. But if you were pretty sure you had got the contaminants off the worst you could do if chop it in half a use the clean portion to clean an area you wouldnt normaly clay (door jambs, under hood ect, ect)

i dropped my clay the other day also..it was brand new! but i took a knife and sliced a good layer off the clay. TaDa looks just as good.
