I don't think this one will buff out . . .

Driving home from work this afternoon, I was hit by a red-light runner. My light had been green for at least 5 seconds (by eyewitness accounts), when I ventured slowly into the intersection, I caught a glimpse of another vehicle speeding down the cross street. I hit my brakes as hard as I could & was at a dead stop when he hit my left front corner, and here's the results . . .

The good thing is that I was able to walk away from this without a scratch (I am feeling a little stiff & sore now though) & witnesses did stop & offer assistance.

And the lesson learned from this, is that if I had not entered the intersection slowly, checking as I went, I would have been in the middle of the street & would not be typing this post. So please, be VERY defensive out there, folks!!

And before you all get on my about the "dusty" condition of the car, it WAS clean before the gardeners showed up at work with their leaf blowers :(

Wow, huge bummer. I'm glad to hear you came out of it alright, but be sure to get checked out well and give it awhile to see if any problems turn up.

The good news is that you're safe and sound. :bigups

The bad news is the unplanned hassle of getting your car repaired.

p.s. -What's up with the dirty hood? (LOL).

Wow, Norah! Glad you are ok, I had one like that once where the guy hit the fender and about 6" of the driver's door...and how it was good I didn't come off the light just a hair quicker (this was a blind corner). Did you drive the vehicle after?

Yes you were very fortunate and I am happy it worked out that way for you. I am also glad to see that an eyewitness stopped and gave the truth regarding the other person running the light!

There are so many drivers who just disregard traffic signals these days. A portion of it is seems to be driver distraction while most of it seems to be people who just don't care. Regardless we notice it is becoming more of a problem around here and by rule of thumb we practice the same method as you... look, creep out, and hold our breath in the hopes that we don't get nailed!

Good luck with getting everything taken care of. And please tell me the other driver had insurance?!

Norah,

I'd definitely get to the doctor and get checked out. It sucks that all that happened because some idiot didnt want to sit through a light. Glad you werent seriously injured though.....The forums wouldnt be the same without ya. :D

^^ idiot spammer, reported.

Glad you're ok man! This scares me a bit because I'm usually one of those guys who starts out right after the green. I've always been scared of something like this happening since I am quick off the line after the green (I tend to predict greens since I drive manual). Sometimes I think I'm too paranoid always looking back and forth to make sure no one's coming down, but this helps me feel a little less insane.

But hey, look at the bright side, you get a new hood :bigups Hopefully the body shop will fix you up well! :)

No Norah!!!!! Good thing is that you're safe. The first time I slammed on the brakes of my dad's CR-V I was pleasantly surprised to find that those have very strong brakes.

Thank you all for your good wishes & support:)

It feels like I spent the whole day on the phone with Enterprise Rent a Car, my Honda dealer, the bodyshop, & the insurance company (each one several times!!).

I'm feeling more & more "twinges" today, so I think I'll take all your advice & try to get in with my doctor later this week for a checkover.

I did not speak to the other car's people at all as they did not speak any English. Witnesses said that they had seen a man exit the driver's door & take off running. By the time the police arrived, there was another man who claimed to be the driver. Apparently, he gave the police his license & insurance, but it was not on the paper that the police gave me??? I've told all this to my insurance company, & I'm going to let them figure it out.

I did get a rental car this morning & I can't say enough nice things about the fellow at Enterprise Rent A Car. When I told him of my situation, (needing the size/space/configuration of the V), he searched all about the area & located a 2006 CR-V for me. Unfortunately, it is dark blue & horribly swirled & water-spotted!! I hope I feel well enough while it's still in my garage to make some improvements & get pictures!!

Anyhow, thanks again everybody & please be really, really careful out there!!!

Perhaps based on witness accounts, the police did not believe the man they interviewed was the driver, and so did not put the driver info on the report.

Glad to hear you're OK. Hopefully the little twinges are just some lightly strained muscles that will go away pretty quickly. Good to see the car did its job protecting you. :)

I'll bet you with 90% certainty that the "real" driver probably didn't have any insurance or was an uninsured relative of the "other" driver. Oh well, what matters is that no one gets ripped off in this situation.

Heh, I think you should fight the temptation to fix that other CRV :D. I mean, its just going to get trashed afterwards anyway, and you'll have spent your expensive detailing products on that :(

Uninsured? Nah, the insurance goes with the car, not the driver. I'll bet at the least he was unlicensed, but even more likely (since they didnt speak English) they were an illlegal alien.

. . . I got the call from the insurance adjuster today & after the initial estimate of $8,000 to repair my '04 CR-V, they started looking "inside" to see what hidden damage there was. It included the left frame rail & the engine cradle & I don't know what else & it has bumped the repair costs up enough for them to consider the car "unrepairable". :(

So, I'll be cleaning the mats etc. out tomorrow morning & signing it over to the insurance company. Then their "Total Loss" department will be calling me later this week to discuss what they'll give me towards a replacement. I've never been down this road before, so if any of you have & can give some pointers, I'd certainly appreciate it. :)

The car is a 2004 Honda CR-V EX with just under 30,000 miles & I think you all have a pretty good idea of the condition it was in prior to the accident. I've looked up the value on KBB, & it ranges from $17,975 (TradeIn), $20,070 (Private Party Sale) to $22,255 (Dealer Sale). Also I need to look into getting compensated for the Extended Warranty I purchased from the United Auto Group when I bought the car. I had also just put new Yokohama tires on this summer.

Then I'll be shopping about looking for a new 2006 Honda CR-V as I'm not crazy about the redesign that Honda has done for 2007.

Any tips & pointers would be greatly appreciated!!

I did go to the doctor & he checked me out & sent me for a head CT due to the continuing headaches, but apparently they did not find anything alarming there. I'm still stiff & sore & Christmas shopping is definitely out right now :(

This certainly is turning out to be a "December to Remember" :(

Norah

Sorry to hear that, Norah...hopefully it will work out better, you'll get a good settlement, and be able to get something new instead of agonizing over body shop painting! Normally I think you would get "hosed" on a two-year old vehicle from the depreciation, but Hondas seem to retain their value really well.
