I beat the cobwebs (this time)

On Saturday afternoon, I decided it was time for me to go after the cobwebs on my Nighthawk Black TLS and also try to achieve that “wet look. I started with a Dawn wash and a clay job. Then I went at a small section of my paint with my PC, DACP and a polishing pad. I pulled the car into the sun and was not satisfied with the results. I pulled the car back into the garage and attached the yellow pad and had another go. This time I saw that the cobwebs were beginning to disappear. I finished the rest of the car with the yellow pad and then went at it again with the white pad and DACP.

I then pulled out my bottle of SMR and went a round with the white pad. I started to lose the light but decided to forge ahead on blind faith and applied a coat of EX-P and called it a night.

The following morning, I pulled the car out into the sun to check my results. To my dismay, I saw very, very, small cobwebs around the sun spot reflection. Rats! I pulled my car back into the garage to ponder my next move. Should I have another go with the SMR or… I spied the bottle of Perfect-It III MG and decided to give it a try with the polishing pad. Bingo! Finally for the first time in my life I had achieved polishing Nirvana. Even under the close scrutiny of my myopic eyes and the unforgiving OC sun, no cobwebs!

I applied one coat of EX-P by hand. Easy on, easy off. I followed up any leftover/difficult areas with a slightly damp MF and I’m a happy camper. Nice deep, liquidy look. Really makes the metal flake pop out too. I’ve never seen my paint like this before. I like it!

I’ll probably add one more coat of EX-P next weekend, just because.

So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. I shall enjoy this brief moment in time with a cold bottle of ice water. Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend!

Nice, nice, nice. Someday I'll kick their @ss as well. Anybody out there know what the best lighting is to detect defects? Great job man!

Looks great man.......one awesome job on the black paint.

I have yet to try the 3m line of smr's. When I am out of menzerna I am gonna look into them.

Again, thanks for the compliments! :)

zesty-man - I used a PC 7424

Buick_guy - The car is a 2002 Acura TLS in Nighthawk Black Pearl

I did take other pics that showed the whole car but because of the shine coming off either the wheels or the body, they ended up underexposed. :nixweiss I'll post em if you want to see them.

Eeesh, you would think that I should at least know how to use my own camera :o I just set it to auto and fire away!

ah, thanks. really nice job, i gotta try some of that stuff, my mom's car has some pretty severe spiderwebbing...

More pics!!! More pics I tell you. That looks awsome. Did you use the same white pad you used the DACP for the 3M or did you wash the pad you used the DACP with for the 3M product. Plus when working with the PC how long did you do a spot and how big a spot did you work until you went on to the next spot. Once again looks awsome!

LOL. I'll take some more pics next weekend after I add another layer of EX-P. I did not use the same polishing pad for the 3M product that I had used for the DACP. I didn't want to cross-contaminate the pad and possibly affect my outcome.

As far as my PC technique, I applied around 5lbs of pressure while moving the PC across the surface at about 12" every three seconds. My PC speed was around 5.5. I moved first horizontally with overlapping strokes and then vertically with overlapping strokes.

You can kind of tell when you have the right pressure applied when you hear the motor begin to engage and change note slightly. I worked a 2' by 2' section until the product began to disappear and dust up slightly. I then moved twice as fast with only 1 or 2lbs pressure. I actually worked two sections before stopping to wipe w/ a MF.

Oh, and once in a while I would hit a spot that wouldn't wipe off easily. I just picked up the PC again and ran over the spot lightly to finish off the product. It then wiped right off. :xyxthumbs

Hope that helps :)

This past weekend, I wanted to add another layer of EX-P to ensure complete coverage. I started thinking about how I would really like the paint to appear a little deeper. Since I had a bottle of EX in my garage as well, I decided to add a layer of EX instead.

The following morning was a gloomy day, slight drizzle, but I took a couple of snaps of my car anyway.

So, that’s the end of my story for now. Thanks everyone for the positive comments! :)

DENNISA,

Did it really deepen that much or is the gloomy day making it look alot deeper than it really is?
I would say it looks so dark because of the gloom. Two days of clouds so far. I'll let you know if there is any difference when the sun comes out again.

tdekany - Good luck! You can do it!
