I am starting to understand now!

I have recently started reading the archives and I have to say WOW:eek: Now I know why there are so many "Do a search" or "Get th e-book" replies. I know I didn't do the level of searching I could have. I honestly appologize for my ignorance and commend all the regulars who are so patient and willing to help all us newbies. Thanks to all. :xyxthumbs Anyways I was just struck by how similar the threads were then compared to now. You have to look at the date on the thread to tell the new posts apart. I am learning so much it is unreal. I would say that at least 75% of the questions asked have been touched on before so whenever someone says "do a search" they are truly being helpful and not just blowing you off. I just wanted to share my thoughts. Its back to the archives for me (I'm only on page 23 in the Detailing Archive .):o Thanks for your time.

No problem... it's nice to see devoted newbies that care to understand. It's just that it gets frustrating seeing the same questions again and again and again. I too, have been facscinated by the wealth of information stored in the archives that we no longer talk about... from polymer chemistry to clay vs. neutralization. Discovering is a more satisfying way of learning than asking.

LOL Have fun searching. There are a few members I know that do all their posting in PMs. The rest of the time they are up to their eyeballs in old posts and articles. Autopia has a ton of info that a lot of members may not even know is there. I love going through the archives and reading what I missed. :)

THANK YOU for discovering the SEARCH ENGINE!!! :bow :bow :bow Really!

It's such a powerful, useful tool. You learn more and often quicker than if you just posted a fresh thread about it. Instead of getting feedback from the few people that reply to your new thread today, you learn from dozens of people by searching. The quality of older replies can be better because the topic was new back then and so discussions go more in-depth. Often you find out about other products along the way and learn many other valuable tidbits of information while you are at it. You can go from Turtle Wax Idiot to Frothing Zainoholic in a day or two of intense reading - trust me! ;)

Again it's YOU I thank! :bigups :D

Bwahahahhahha!!! "You can go from Turtle Wax Idiot to Frothing Zainoholic in a day or two of intense reading - trust me!" Dude, that is going in my signature one of these days!! :LOLOL That is so perfect! Maybe its time to retire the Strong Bad line. ;)

One of the great things about using the search function is you don't have to wait for an answer! I can't like waiting!!, and with the search it's right there right now!!!

I'll second that motion. :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs

The primary reason I always suggest searching is that many of the threads discussing one topic tend to branch off into other discussions. By not searching you miss out on not just the basic info you want but all the ancilliary talk that happens which can really expand your knowledge. Many old threads have links to websites or other threads from which you can learn even more.

We've had many people come and go at Autopia but if you don't search you never get a chance to learn from those folks. So the net result is that you've just shortchanged yourself by not using the search function.

Personally if I've answered the same question 15 times, I may not feel like answer it a 16th. So the poster looking for info loses yet again by not searching as there could be valuable info they want/need in old posts but never get because many veterans get tired of answering the same thing over and over.

Thanks for searching, Hemi. You've really helped yourself.:wavey

Yes, the search function is amazing but i think something is being overlooked. There is a lot of complaining about how there are no more in-depth, hard-hitting, etc. threads. I think part of the blame should go to the search function. Many interesting topics have been discussed but either not in much depth or questions have been left unanswered. Every time one of these topics resurfaces as a new thread it gets shot down in a heartbeat because it has been discussed before. Also, it has been mentioned that many discussions branch off into other topics. If we stop all of these new threads before they begin, then we lose many branched topics as well. Who knows where a discussion could lead us? Just my opinion.

All I'm saying is to think twice before shooting down topics.

I do realize that some topics have been discussed to death and there is no value in bringing them back.
