I am just concerned about the protection......

If it always sheeted, I wouldn't be as concerned, but why does it bead and then sheet 1-2 car washes later? I agree, the car still looks great (nice shine), but how do we know about the protection?

Try using meguiars #34 on the klasse and see how it beads. I personally am more impressed that the surface sheets water than beads. Seems to me there is less surface tension when the water sheets off and leaves almost no water behind. I am very satisfied with Klasse's level of protection. It makes my paint as smooth as marble. I can definately feel the difference between the klasse and bare paint. I can see the difference as well since the polymers leave behind that candy shine. If Klasse or any polymer for that matter weren't on there it wouldn't have that trademark candy shine.

I'm just curious...why does this issue keep coming up in a NEW thread?

For all who care, I will post my own personal experiences one last time. On every car to which I've applied Klasse All-in-One or Klasse Sealant Glaze, water beads. Like crazy. For a long time.

I apply AIO with foam, and wipe with a dry MT. No water or QD. I apply KSG with a small piece of old, soft t-shirt material (all cotton). I let it dry on the car as long as possible, but at least one hour. I remove with a MT, one time I did use a spritz of water on the towel (application was a bit heavy, I think). The times I've had best results, the layer of KSG has been thin enough that it almost seems to disappear into the paint - had a hard time seeing where I'd been, even on the dark cars.

My personal preference is to allow the layers to "cure" at least 24 hours (except if I use more than one pass of AIO, in which the second application of AIO will follow the first). This is obviously on my cars - on family and friends, they get AIOx1 and KSGx1.

"Tired" is a very kind word that describes a lot of what has been going on in this forum of late.

I personally look forward to learning new detailing tricks and techniques, as well as, taking away information about specific products. A type of motivation, if you will.

This fall I expect to learn even more from the likes of Brad B. as he prepares to defend his title at the N.A. Jaguar Event next month. Has anyone ever seen the threads of a bolt or the wire inside of its insulating sheath detailed...stay tuned.

This is the type of information we need to spark ideas and to help each of us utilize whatever product(s) is housed on our own shelves to its fullest potential.

Brad B., I hope you don't mind being put on the spot and that the event is accurate. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

This new thread was started presumably because the thread in which this subject originated was closed. At least that's what I encountered when trying to post a reply. I just applied another coat of KSG on my silver car last night. I tried to follow Koy's suggestion of using very thin coats and the stuff disappears into my paint. I literally used 1 drop of the stuff to apply it on small area (2'x2'). Buffing off the KSG was more like doing a QD, except I rubbed a little harder than I normally would.

I guess I can't argue with the results. My car looks awesome now. However, some of us (or maybe just a few of us) are concerned with its protective abilities and so we'd like to discuss it because we use Klasse. Nothing wrong with wanting to investigate whether or not the stuff we are using is actually protecting the car, or just giving it a good shine.

Yes, I would be interested in taking the detailing discussed here to a higher level. We pretty much know what wax we like and different rubber and tire dressings, etc. But there is a lot more to it if folks are interested. More products, tools and tricks for various detailing challenges.

I have been lucky to have won top honors in the Jag Concour circles and told myself I was "retired" after last year. I won't likely fret as much with my car this year. I will show this one time but I have spent much of this year judging and instructing others on how to get ready for a concours. The two guys I have spent the most time helping are actually a direct competitors in my concours class! Oh well, I guess I should pass the baton.

The annual Jaguar Clubs of North America Concours in St. Louis is to be held Saturday, October 6. If you are in the neighborhood, check it out.

Just curious...

Water will bead on an unwaxed healthy clearcoat. If this is the case it is hard to tell when the water beading stops due to the sealant degrading. My dad's caddy is a 1990 and sheets water when the bare clear coat is exposed. When it beads water for a wash or two and then goes to sheeting it makes me wonder, and you can see my concern. Shine is still good though.

DK, like with all the products that we use it's more like a working experiement. Take my favorite dash stuff for example, you can only take what the label says so far. I've been using it for almost 2 years with no problems, so we have yet to see.

Many of us use Klasse and many of us bank on the the fact that it should protect. But for all of us it's a working experiment. There are people that have used Klasse for at least 5 years and they're cars look as good as they have been.

Your concern for protection is valid but the results speak for themselves so far. There is big difference between a non Klassed car and a Klassed car (now that difference may or may not be beading) but the other difference (ie the results) are what people notice.

hope this doesn't start more rather than help end... :)

I'm still new to this forum. I see that a lot of you use Klasse products, a product that I have never heard of but would like to experiment with. Does Klasse have a website that I can check out? I'm in the process of trying out different polishes and waxes to see what my car likes best.

Good point. So, to add to your data collection, I will say that on the Maxima, which has had just AIOx2, KSGx2 for three months, I still have significant "protection" beading. You're correct, the paint did bead slightly when it was unprotected (I used several applications of SMR to remove swirls, over a few days, and dealt with rain on one of them, so I've seen it with bare clearcoat in the rain). But it was big, gloppy beading (gloppy being a technical term) ;)

Just drove it a couple days ago in the rain, still get a lot of beading just like I did after the Klasse was applied, and the water flies off when the car is moving, like it's electrified or something...

IMHO, the best testing will be on your one car, since there are so many variables with paint, etc. Maybe the Klasse just doesn't like the color? :D

So, if Klasse doesn't "keep a bead" on that particular car, stick with the Zaino. But don't paint Klasse in general terms as not providing beading after a couple weeks, because most folks don't seem to be having that problem.

I agree. My truck hasn't had a coat of SG in 3 months and still beads like crazy. It rained here in PA yesterday and I was still impressed at how. the water ripped right off the hood at speed. unprotected paint is NOTHING like the look of the beading of a klassed car. I put a coat of AIO and 2x SG on my fathers chevy at the beginning of the summer and it still looks awesome. Still beads even though it only gets washed once a month. It beads better than when it was new. Not many others here having your problem. Hook may be right that that paint may just not like the Klasse for some reason. Never heard it before but.. never know.

I used Klasse for the first time about 6 weeks ago (1 coat AIO, 2 coats SG with 24 hour wait time). My non clearcoat Supra still beads completely with same slickness after about 5 or 6 washes. My wintergreen Outback both sheets and beads. Overall I see no loss in protection and the cars look great after each wash.

I have had a major bonus which was a surprise. It has been raining for the last week; both cars stay much cleaner between washes than from my pre Klasse days. If you look close, they are dirty, but from any distance they still look great.

Just an observation from a periodic forum participant, it seems that over the last couple of months, this forum is slightly shifting from detailing tips to which is better, Zaino or Klasse, albeit subtle. If that continues, maybe, the forum should be broken down to Klasse specific, Zaino specific, and general detailing topics. I realize that, as a non regular, I probably should not be commenting and sorry if I offended anyone.

Regardless, I have really appreciated the forum for the knowledge sharing. It has turned something boring (detailing) into something fun and rewarding.

Thanks Darbh. Its my fathers 97 lumina. He is a bit eccentric. He had my best friend who owns a vinyl graphics company put the graphics on to "personalize his car" You can check out the graphics Co. at http://www.lmsgraphics.com the site is a bit incomplete right now but has some good pics on it.

MikeK- Glad you have had success with the Klasse. I have also experienced a clean car after it gets rained on. It doesn't seem to attract nearly as much dirt. I guess it just flies right off with the water. I agree that in recent months it seems to have become that type of forum. I don't know the motivation but it seems like people are becoming a little too concerned over what people are using rather than helping people with achieving the perfect shine. Reccommending someone try a product is one thing. I think you have a good point as to breaking certain threads away from the detailing forum. I think you'll also find that people are not going to get PO at your suggestions. I think you echo a LOT of members sentiments. Many of the senior members, I believe, have stopped posting because of the very thing you speak of. This forum will survive and continue on and suggestions like yours are definately constructive to the community as a whole, whether they're implemented or not. Thats the beauty of this place is everyones voice is heard.

<strong class='bbc'>Klasse products[/b]

Ok after checking out the link, I am eager to try Klasse one. Looks pretty easy to apply and uses less time too. What do I need to start? I saw that there is a red and grey bottle. Do I just get those two bottles?

Like everyone else, I too am searching for the perfect shine.:)

I think this board can handle a little chest-beating now and then. If all it takes to scare folks away is a bit of "my product is better than your product for x, y, and z reasons" then I feel sorry for them. Some people don't like controversy, I guess.

That said, this has to be one of the most civil boards I have ever had the priviledge to be a member of. So kudo's to all of you for making this a fun and enjoyable (and sometimes aggrevating) forum.

Just so you guys know, I really don't care what product you use. And if I have never used what you are touting, how can I even comment on that? Well, I can't with any degree of evenhandedness. But that may not stop me!:p
