Hows this plan look?

My sis just picked up a 2007 Mazda 6, white. I was looking at the car (another one to practice on :heelclick) and there are no swirls and only a few light scratches that can not be felt with your finger nail. The car does feel a lil rough.

This is my plan please critque

Was the car 2 bucket method with Z7

Clay car with Meg clay

Polish with DG 501

DWG x2

DG 111 on top

Door jams cleaned with diluted APC and sprayed with Prima hydro

Wheels have just some light brake dust I think car wash and MF will get them clean. I was going to apply some NXT 2.0 on them when done

Tires clean with APC and finished with Meg tire shine

Interior vacuum

Clean carpet with Bissel carpet cleaner (stand up kind with a hose attachment we use in the house)

Do the same for the seats

Dash and door trims Meg quick interior detailer topped with Danase Nu Finish

Engine cleaned with APC, water and topped with CD-2

My real question is if you are detailing a car that has no swirls and only a few scratches or no scratches can I just use a final polish or something like Duragloss or would an AIO like Zaino or Klasse be better?

thanks

My belief is if you are going to polish afterwards, there's no need to take the little bit of extra time on a 2 bucket, just go one. But that's me. otherwise, I think it looks good! And you are spot on about using a final polish if the scratches aren't that deep, but test it first; if scratches/swirls are still there, step up to the next best pad or polish.

Just use the least aggressive method that gets the swirls and scratches out. since it's a new car they shouldn't take much unless the cc is hard. Congrats on the mazda6 too, my friend has one and they definitely have some zoom zoom in em.

Mazda is ford so I assume it has very soft clear.

That isn't exactly true.

Just because Ford has an ownership interest in Mazda, and some of their vehicles share parts, it does not mean that Mazda paint is the same paint used on Ford vehicles.

If you are going to use one bucket, at least have a Grit Guard in it.

FWIW, I still pre-soak with my foam gun AND use the 2-bucket method regardless if it's a regular wash or an exterior detail.

Being that my car was recently waxed, I made very short work of the washing process. There was almost no dirt to be wiped off after the pre-soak with the foam gun. It was really awesome.

If I had a Mazda6 I'd shoot some AutoInt/ValueGuard Rust Inhibitor up into the drainage holes along the bottom of the doors. I heard a rumor (don't think my source would want me to get too specific here ;) so take my word for it or don't ) that some 6s might have the same kind of corrosion issues that the passenger front door of many MPVs can have (including mine).

The Rust Inhibitor is a cheap, easy to use aerosol and it'd sure beat dealing with rust (which Mazda won't cover until it perforates the panel). Cheaper and easier than getting the door(s) fixed, at least IME.

Other than that... I'd still be very careful washing; the marring you cause with a quick wash just might be the scratch that's too deep to get out ;) And I'd LSP the doorjambs so they shed water/dirt a little better.

I *think* the ZaioAIO might be just right for this. I was surpised at its nice (but gentle) abrasives, quite different from the Klasse version.

IIRC ScottWax knows from Mazda 6 paint...

Agree 110%. Why run the risk of creating more work for you?

I don't have a foam gun, usually I rinse the car with hose with nozzle on a jet stream, then wash the car with 2 bucket method, take the nozzle off and rinde the car with the running water from the hose, sometime I will even use another mit or sponge and wash teh car one more time.
