Howdy From Florida

I was a member here a couple of years back when I had my detailing business in Palm Beach. It was a part time gig back then. I had a lot of fun with it and the extra money was good. I'm now in the Lakeland area and - after a job loss - have jumped back into detailing to survive. Talk about scared s..tless!!. I'm on my second month and doing okay with building my customer base, but still far from making a living.

I would LOVE to hear from those of you who have been successful in building your business and make your living out of it. I swear...99% of those I talk to who are detailing or did detail say that they do or did it part time. And although they all say they made "good money", it's not their bread and butter.

So, hello from Polk County and wish me luck. I'm all ears to anyone with business advice.

Welcome back AlphaOmega!, I was in lakeland 2 weeks ago at a meet, maybe next time we can meet up with a bunch of folks.............:welcome:

I'm definitely up for meeting with fellow detailers. I'm especially looking forward to getting to some shows and expos. Got my registration for 2009 MobileTech Expo on my desk as I type.

Wow your ahead of me on that one. Hopefully i can make it for a day in Jan 09. Maybe in Oct we might have a meet. It was very hot at the meet that day.

Welcome to DC, sorry i cant help you out I do this for fun. But I really wish you all the best and if I read on any of the boards anyone looking for a detailer near you I will let you know

Welcome. Glad to have you here.

I think I need to clarify. Although I wish it were under better circumstances for you, I'm glad to have you here.

I've been in the detailing business for a number of years so if their's any specific questions I can answer feel free to ask.

Thanks Troy. Looking forward to the next time I'm in the Sarasota area so I can pay a visit to your store. Just got my order of Bug Squash and Leather Stuff. That was FAST. I ordered it yesterday.

As for my circumstances, I'm optimistic about my business and its future. I just know it will take time and the stress level tends to rise when you aren't doing this just for fun anymore. But I love detailing and getting out there, meeting potential and current customers.

I'll keep my eye on October, and if there's a meet like Zoom mentioned, I will certainly be there. Do these meets focus on info and training, or are they mainly social?

They are geared toward basic detailing techniques and also to demonstrate the Four Star and Ultima lines. We are open to addressing any areas that you want help with such as using a rotary or dual action polisher. I haven't done a very good job of drawing a crowd to these clinics but they are definitely worth attending. I will be scheduling another one soon. I hope you can make it to one.

It would be nice if one of the clinic's is on a Sunday Troy. Its hard to get off work on those days. Because most of my retail customers come in to buy paint for their weekend job's.

Troy - for what it's worth, I missed your first "open house" meet due to another committment that day but am staying tuned for the next one. I'm doing 100% rotary correction but would be interested in anything the folks might want to see.

AlphaOmega - welcome from Hillsborough County and I am also just a part timer.
