High pressure water, at a safe distance....Pure Sheepskin Washmitt, and your flavor of car wash soaps.....Give it a good rinse to get that salt off though, especially the underbody.....That should settle washing it. Follow up with a quality Waffle Weave drying towel and MF and your in luck !

Very carefully. Probably 4 or 5 buckets of your favorite car soap and a natural sea sponge as they don't scratch and naturally expel dirt. Rinse car off thoroughly before washing with gentle pressure as not to embed anything into the paint. Rinse sponge after washing each panel so you will not transfer dirt into your clean wash bucket. Dry with WW MF towel. Your done your happy.:xyxthumbs

I agree with the high pressure wash. Even if you can't get after it with a wash mit, a high pressure wash will get rid of most of the salt. A warm, high pressure wash will dissolve and rinse away the salt, even if it leaves the dirt. You can deal with the damages of dirt in the spring. Salt damage is much harder to deal with, especially on your wheels.

Use MANY mitts or those sea sponges (:scared especially during winter) if you want Absolutely have QEW on tap

I have a lot of experience with this type of grime. You should use hot water (that's right) and a car wash detergent. A regular good cotton terry cloth will due (or your favorite wash medium). If your schedule gets hectic, and the weather is too cold to wash by hand, then I'd suggest to find either a very good car wash (preferrably a hand car wash), and/or a car wash with an underbody detail so as to rinse the salt from underneath, that will one day come back to haunt you in the form of rust holes.

PS: It is especially important during the winter that you wash your car regularly, at least once a week.

Good luck!

being from queens yourself, you know exactly how i feel especially with the hectic schedule and stuff. i am in Flushing, so do you know where there is a good hand car wash with the underbody cleaning? how much do they typically go for to go through one of those things? my car has never seen a car wash place since i ve owned it. its low and those places usually have guide rails that my car can't go over. besides, i never trusted them.

thanks for all the help guys.

The one that comes to mind that specifically does underbody detail is in Valley Stream, at the corner of Rockaway Ave. and Sunrise Hwy. If you're in flushing, then you should find the VanWyck Exprwy to the Belt Pkwy and then to Sunrise Hwy East.

That could in fact be a stretch for you I suppose. A few of the larger car washes will have underbody detail services. You won't need to go crazy with it I'd say. If you can do this once or twice this winter then you will be in good shape. The important thing is to keep the car clean, and if you run it through the car washer (hmmm never thought I'd recommend that) then that will help keep all of your car clean effectively during the slush!
