Can I use Tide HE? Is Woolite better? How much detergent should I use since I am only washing the two mitts in the washer, nothing else.. What are the settings for the washer? Air dry only right?

I Usually only wash mine in my soap solution, and rinse well then store, I would wash on gentle if using a machine.. I would use woolite.. air dry.

I just called Eurow and she said to just wash it in the sink with Woolite, she said not to wash in machine because it will "die" on me...this sound right to u guys>?

I've never thrown a sheepskin mitt in a wash machine, usually they are pretty clean after being rinsed with a hose...If it's that dirty, I'll just pitch it or use it for tires..

If you need to throw it in the machine, just use the gentle cycle..

I just wash mine in a bucket ..basiclly just rinse soap out of it....I would imagine the car shampoo is enough to clean it..just need to rinse soap and grit out ..I put sheepskin on a grate ..like a old refridgerator grate...spray both sides good..in all directions....then fill a bucket with water and rinse remaining soap out and hang dry....I have some 2 years old and still nice....

I did machine wash once and it tore it apart at the seams....

How do you all dry your mitts after washing. It seems to take days for the inside liner to dry and I'm afraid it'll get all moldy. Someone (don't know if it was here) posted a solution using a wire coat hanger where you bend both ends into a U-shape. Then you put that into the mitt so it catches. Then you can hang it up to dry and the opening of the mitt will stay open to allow for some air to circulate into the liner.

Not the prettiest or most elegant solution, but it seems to help.

I've washed mine on gentle cycle, didn't cause any problems at all. However, I usually just rinse it very well when I'm done washing the car, and hang it to dry.

Washing a mitt in a washing machine has never appealed to me. Think about what actually happens in the machine...the mitts will just get turned over a bunch of times. Is this going to clean them thoroughly? I doubt it. I think you're merely wasting a lot of water/detergent.

I always clean my mitts by hand in a bucket of warm water. I just stick my hand inside and vigorously swish it back and forth. Then I rub the mitt back and forth to loosen any leftover dirt. This method seems to work well for me every time. Then I hang the mitt on a clothesline in my garage (actually just 14lb test fishing line stretched between the rafters :) ) to dry.

I have several sheepskin mitts and I always wash them in my washing machine as a group when I have a few used ones. I shake and rake the fibers out a litte and air dry on a horizontal pegboard in laundry room.

They are always clean and haven't had any problems in the years I have been doing this.

I don't trust a bucket rinse to clean them thoroughly.

You probably spoke to Donna....Wonderful gal who knows how to run a business, thats for sure! And, i agree (as ive said many times) dont use a washing machine for Pure Sheepskin Washmits. They get enough abuse washing car surfaces. They dnt require the additional agitation to maintain cleanliness. Just use, wash in a clean solution, wring and air dry.....

Noting that I consider mitts a renewable resource, I wash chenille ones with regular detergent on regular cycle and sheepskin ones (when necessary, which isn't often) with Woolite on delicate cycle. The chenille ones lose fibers and wear but the sheepskin ones don't, no problems with those and I'm still using the same sheepskin ones after, what?....two years or so IIRC. Maybe my gentle wash techniques help 'em last :nixweiss

I no longer bother hanging up my sheepskin mitts or otherwise drying them. I started neglecting them and found it didn't make any difference. I just lay them over the edge of the wash buckets and they seem to do OK, no mold/mildew/etc. but note that my shop is climate-controlled with a dehumidifier running all the time.

Note that I'm not advising anybody to mistreat their mitts the way I do...just relating my experience.

I don't know... the washing machine seems to do pretty well on my clothes, and I've thrown some dirty clothes in there before. Of course, I use sheepskin mitts instead of chenille... chenille definitely holds onto the dirt a lot more than sheepskin.
