How to tell if layers have not bonded?

Another Saturday good morning!

You all have talked about products not bonding with the previously applied layers.

How does one know when this happens?

It is hard to tell but you'd probably get streaking or shorter durability. Nothing bad will happen to the paint other than the short durability or streaks.
 
I noticed it (well, I suspect bonding was the culprit) when using Klasse SG and after washing I'd get an oily film on the car. It would buff off, but then reappear....

The oil resulted in what looked like swirls...you could make them go any direction you wanted by simply passing a MF towel over the panel...
