How to tell a good MF?

So, ive been looking around the local auto parts stores lately, and along with the terry applicator pads (which they've had for a while) a few places have 18x18 inch MF's for sale. Now, they aren't exactly cheap, but arent as much as some i've seen. So, im wondering, is there a good way to check and see if a MF is a good quality MF by feel or something? I know ranney's are probably the best, but im just wondering if there is a way to see if the MF is quality or not while im still in the store. Thanks in advance for your time.

If you are buying MF be smart know who you are buying it from.Go with RANNEY and know what your getting and have a peaceful sleep

I know those guys are good, i just wanted to know of a way to test OTHER MF's and see how they were. I would do the cd test, but it looks a little conspicuous doing it in the auto parts store.

I take a CD into the store, I found the packages at Walmart to be good quality, cheap too. Passed the CD test w/o a problem

yea allot of the cheaper towels are good.....they just don't hold up....i have some from Ranney that are 6 months old and get washed nearly weekly they are stilll holding up well.....

Which is preferred on a jet black car? I have a big blue wwmf which has only been washed a few times and its just never been really soft. Should I use a softer one or does the softness not matter if its a wwmf? I was thinking about buying the new and improved big blue wwmf, will get different ones if you think its best. I worry deeply about getting swirls from towels even as careful as I am. On pak shak I see some that look extremely soft and wonder if I should get those instead? :nixweiss

edit for spelling :)

My pakshak WW is very soft. Try a vinegar final rinse in the washing machine, maybe you have some weird starch on it?

Autofiber seems to make a good towel, but the nudge going to Pakshak as being a little thicker, it seems. I'm going to compare my yellow super soft plush Pakshak with Autofiber's, from what I can tell the Pakshaks are a little thicker and dare I say fuller. Maybe it's just me. :nixweiss Of course, I can get the autofibers for cheaper at the moment so I'd probably go with that. Both make extremely good towels. :xyxthumbs

I own four jet black vehicles  and use The Ultimate Drying Towels from the Autopia store and love them. They are nice and soft, yet make removal of polishes and waxes a breeze and no swirls. Now David was telling us about some new ones that he just got in that are supposed to be even better than these. I have a few on order but haven't received them yet to give an opinion. He has two, one by Viking and another by Sonus. They are both supposed to be top notch. Here's a quick link to the store if you want to take a look at them. Autopia Store - Microfiber

Thanks! Let me know about those when you get them. I see the Ultimate Drying towel is still the most expensive, but I don't care when it comes to my paint!

I see you are from New Orleans. We just got back from Louisiana (Baton Rouge) Sunday. The weather was terrible when we were there! There's nothing like going home though!

Yep, from good ol' nawlins!! LOL. Don't feel bad, the weather STILL sucks around here.

I will certainly let you know about those towels, as I'm excited to see myself. One thing I like right off the bat about the new ones, is the fact that they don't have the stitching on the edges. I guess we'll just have to see!
