How to take off white/calcium deposits on rubber hoses?

Hi,

I have an Evo so the hood has scoops on it, I guess what happens is when I was my car the water goes inside and lands on the rubber hoses such as radiator hose and leaves these nasty white stains on there, just wondering what is the best way to remove them?

Chemical Guys makes a nice "thick" water spot remover.

Another option is to soak a rag with some vinegar and rub the hoses down. the vinegar should help to break down the calcium and remove the spots. It will just take some elbow grease, and it really depends on how bad they are.

is that stuff safe on rubber and plastic components of the engine bay? I'm nervous it'll degrade the material or mix with the fumes and ignite something.
