how to start the exterior detail?

before i clay my car should i wash the car with car soap, or dish soap like dawn, ive read diffrent things diffrent places im not not sure wats best? i wanna make sure i get all the old wax off so i can start with a clean slate thanks

use car soap...
then clay it (be sure to use a lube)
The cleaner will remove the previous wax

I've used Dawn dishsoap when stripping a car clean , haven't had any problems. When washing go with th ebody lines and not circles, in case you didn't know. You could cause swirls and scratches if dirt is trapped in your washcloth.
