How to see swirls?

Hey all,

just wondering, can I use a regular flashlight or an LED flashlight to see swirls?

I need to do a small detail tomorow, not enough time to get a brinkman...

My method: regular incandescent lightbulbs in an otherwise dark shop.

I have all sorts of lights (including halogens and a 3M SunGun and a lot of tactical flashlights), but when I want to do my final inspection (esp. on silver), I turn off everything and rely on incandescents.

Note that for *holograms* I need natural sunlight.

We have some older threads that might be worth searching for, including ones where the other pc explained how "point source illumination" works best, and how it's not a matter of brightness as much as a specific type of *contrast*.
