How to remove tar from tires?

I autocrossed my 911 yesterday, and aside from chewing up the tires pretty bad, and getting lots of little pebbles lodged in the tires, I got HUGE chucks of tar smeared on the treads, when I parked the car on top of a spot where they repaired the pavement. It is so bad, the car has a wobble in it when driving. It is getting better, but it was really bad when I left the event yesterday.



Other than scraping, is there any safe product to get the tar off the tires? And by safe, I mean safe for the tire and anything else that might be in the vicinity of the tire. (Not sure I really want to pour gasoline on the rear tire, being that's it's a few inches away from the muffler.)

I would try scraping. If it's fresh it might scrap right off. Maybe a PW. Solvents would work but might damage the tire.
