Everytime i start up it starts like 12 programs and all i want it to start is just my connection and my AntiVirus program. My ? is where do i go to find that section to make those changes. Ive been looking for about an hour or so and havent found it yet.

So what do i do :nixweiss

If it isn't on the start --> Programs --> Startup menu. Go to Start --> Run and type in regedit From there go to HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and select the Run folder. Delete from there what you don't want starting up. Just make sure you know what you are deleting because it doesn't go to the recycle bin.

Start - Run - msconfig. On XP there will be a start up tab. There will be a bunch of programs. You may have to stretch the command section to see what it is. A lot can be uncheck, but some can not. If you are not sure leave it checked and post what it is. Someone will be able to answer. You could also google the name.

try running a pcpitstop test ( www.pcpitstop.com ) as well, when the test is done it will give you a list of all the programs in start up and colorize them accordingly to:

REQUIRED

Virus/adware

Optional

Unknown

etc, etc

If it's a virus/adware you will most likely need a tool/s like adaware or spybot to remove them and obviously run a virus scan immediatly.

If running XP it's easiest to goto the run command and type msconfig and edit from there, after that you may want to go into the registry and clean everything up if you so choose.

Good luck!

With msconfig, you can also just un-select all and Windows will automatically reselect the required processes. It's great for getting a stubborn virus outa the memory so you can delete it.
