How to make your own microscope for less than $20

So I noticed that detailers use a microscope to check out scratches on their paint. I checked the pricing on one since I figured they would be a good investment... SUCKERS ARE EXPENSIVE! Not only that, but the ones I saw you have to squat over the car and look into the tool. None I saw aloud you to take pictures for future references either. So I figured I would show you how to make one just as good using your camera phone and a laser lens.

You can buy the lenses in packs from sites like cajunlasers.com or even amazon or ebay. Cajunlasers.com is one of my fav laser websites, great service and super fast shipping.

Here is the pack of laser modules i have. The lens is inside screwed into module with the focus adapter on the top of lens.

Simply unscrew the adapter and lens off the lower half of the module. Keep the adapter and lens together. These lenses are a PITA to clean, most amateurs will find it impossible to clean. So be careful how you handle them.

There is a few ways you can go about this. You can either use an alligator clip to hold the adapter, or some clear tape. I used some clear tape that I punched a hole in with a paper hole punch.

Then you simply put the tape over the adapter and align the lens over your phone. Thats it, pretty simple. I have noticed with this you either want to use in the bright sunlight. OR keep some kind of light close by as the closer you get to your paint the less light will be picked up by the camera.
Here is some examples I took using the scratches in my paint.

This first one is actually a factory defect. They over torqued a bold on the corner of the bumper, which caused the bumper and fender to rub. This has the paint chipping away, ill need to take it to the dealership for this soon....
