How to get lint out of MF?

I have some Ultra-Fines from PakShak and I use them to clean my ipod...except they lint pretty bad..I was wondering if it was possible to get this lint out of the MF completely?

Maybe a vigorous wash with a lot of agitation? I personally haven't had any major linting problems with my better MF's, so I'm not that sure.

Are they linting from (a)new, or (b) after washing with other fabrics?

If (a), then wash a couple of times in lots of warm water and tiny bit of detergent to loosen the fibres.

If (b), then wash with hot water and tiny bit of detergent.

The reason I emphasize "tiny", is that most use too much and the MF hold onto the detergent and don't release it again unless washed in hot water alone.

I used to use the regiment generally suggested on this forum until I washed them in hot water without detergent. OMG!!! The washer filled with suds from the trapped detergent. I washed them 3 times in hot water alone and they still sudsed up.

I remember reading that the key to MF releasing its trapped product (wax, sealant, polish, fibres, dtergent, etc) is HOT water. Hardly any detergent is needed.

Doesn't hurt the MF and leaves a very clean towel. :bigups

I agree that it's bad to use too much detergent. But the reason that the washer filled with suds when washing without detergent, might very well be that there was old detergent trapped in the washer itself, maybe not so much from the MF's.

I find that it helps to dry the MF's in the dryer to release lint (compared to air drying). Washing them a few times is also a good idea.

That does sound like a plausible explanation. However, I find the suds diminish after several hot-water rinses, and return when I start on other MF that haven't been through the hot-water rinse process.

Any detergent residue that may have been in the washer washes away after one rinse - it has nowhere hide. Besides, when I do a hot-water rinse of my cotton towels, I don't get the same suds. I only get the suds problem with MF, and especially with those older ones before I changed my detergent amount.

It's a problem unique to MF because of the special fibre-split.

If you're not convinced, then do your own experiment with your MF and hot-water rinses...I bet they'll suds like crazy even after two or three rinses. :D

From my experience the lent is mostly gone by washing them so much (by hand)

My Cobra Junior MF lent so much when I did a QD job.

My Pak Shak are the best ones that I have with me and I don't have a lent problem.
