The posts are full of "white car stories" where people don't know if they have clear coat or not.

IF IT'S STILL THERE get the paint color code off the door jam sticker, called your local (Insert car company)'s body shop, and ask someone to please look up what it is. Call a second shop if you want to be sure.

2004 Honda Accord Taffata White, NH578, for example, turns out to be a single base, clear coat.

Most of us are pretty experienced at car detailing and have a quick and easy way to determine if a car has a clearcoat:

Apply a small amount of a cleaner wax or abrasive polish to an applicator and rub onto a hidden spot of paint. If the color shows on the applicator, you have a single stage nonclearcoat paint job. If you see no color, you do indeed have a clearcoated paint job.

When it comes to white paint, a certain amount of common sense must be used but I'm sure a reminder is not in order here.

Bret is right. Using a light polish or cleaner wax will tell you instanty if the paint is single stage or clear coated.
