How to beat ol' man winter?

My truck is FILTHY (embarrassing)!

Does anyone just hit the local coin-ops and leave their vehicles sit outside during the winter? I spent WAY TOO many hours this summer on the truck to have it looking like crap!

My garage has been booked all winter with indoor home projects (hardwood floor installation, lower level bathroom remodel, and of course holiday crap everywhere)

is the best thing now to just high pressure wash off the salty dirty grime and hope that spring arrives fast?

I know how it is. My ride looked flawless last Saturday but after a 4 hour round trip drive to a detail in the snow, it looks like a chunk of salt with wheels. I would run to the coin-op and spray it off, but its 1 degree out. -25 F windchill....

  • Rinse outside with hose (or rinse at local car wash spray booth)
  • Roll car into garage
  • Give car ONR bath
  • Stand back and smile :)

I feel you pain. Next to impossible to keep a daily driver clean in the winter.

I will usually hit the coin-op to wash the majority of the crap off the car. If we have a warm day, I will do an ONR wash. I Usually end up doing the wifes car and leaving mine dirty.

I take mine through the touchless car wash when it will stay above freezing for a night. Put usaully when it gets above freezing all of the snow melts making a mess and I don't want to wash it then. LOL My truck will be filthy for a long while yet.

If you have a garage, ONR with a heater. If you are working outdoors, fill two buckets with hot tap water and suprinsgly it wil stay warm for a very long time (probably almost till the end of the wash). Your hands will never get cold.

It's going to be a high of 9 this weekend. I think my hands will get cold and probably break off and the water will probably freeze as it hits the vehicle. LOL ;)

Not to mention that when you're dealing with a hard layer of dried salt, it's much better to pre-rinse the car somehow if you're going to use ONR. I find it much better to wet down the salt and dirt to help soften and loosen it before washing. I would've hit the tunnel wash today if they weren't closed because of the weather.

Yesterday I washed my car in the garage (no heater) with QEW. It was 17*F outside, 40*F inside, thanks to the warm car and sun's heat beating down on my garage door.

Wonder what would happen if you mixed washer fluid with ONR.

I just ordered some ONR, been a little worried how I am going to wash it. The hot water sounds like it should do the trick though. :) It's been in the single digits for the past couple weeks, dipping below zero every night... Needless to say the garage isn't very warm at all.. :o

Use some caution with the hot water and the glass. Not sure how hot others are using or what the glass can handle. At work I heat my water and if I'm using really hot water will skip the glass and just clean it with rubbing alcohol. The roof seems to trip me up the most. If I don't stop the water from running down the side it'll freeze :furious: and then I have to go back over stuff with more hot water or steam. I'm thinking about carrying a hair dryer with me to though to take care of refreeze.

Basically same for me, although I must admit after spending that much time cleaning the car, its quite depressing to drive no more than 10 mins, get out, and it looks like you never washed it again... :wall :hairpull
