How thin is thin???

I was reading a post here on the forum about a thin layer applied to his vehicle. I remember a few years ago what I thought was thin was actually thick. It was mentioned in this thread that he used a sealant and put four coats on his vehicle and used four ounces of product.

Is this thin? In my estimation it is not. Anyone else think that four ounces of an liquid sealant for four coats on a personal vehicle to be a bit much or is it just me?:hmmm::thought::dunno:

While it does seem like it is a lot more than I would use, I honestly don't know how much product I use per application. After the first priming of the applicator pad, it sure doesn't take very much.
Thin was a really hard concept for me to grasp for quite a few years. If you can see any product being left on the paint, it's plenty. Probably more than plenty. :D

come on slap it on real thick :D how can i sell anything if you only use an ounce per application:lol2:

I've gotten to the point where to put it on thin enough I just open the jar and place it on the hood and hope some of it evaporates into the air tand then falls back on the car.

I have to agree Charles. Thin was a very hard concept for me as well. In fact the only time I have ever had problems with removal of a sealant or wax is when I have applied it to thick. Thin is an acquired habit. I now prefer to layer with many thin layers versus one thick layer. I find better looks with this mentod. Plus it keeps me on my toes when I am applying. (My least favorite part of a detail). But makes up for it when I buff it off. (My favorite part of the detail).

I once use the Zaino and I was demonstrate how thin the layer was on the paint. I can barly see the dam product. Truely I don't believe thin application. It's hard to see if I really cover it good. I usually put enough so I can see it is actually covered. But not to a point that is a thick layer.

I like to apply my sealant by PC, this way I lay down a thin even coat. Sometimes it is a little difficult to tell, but if I tilt my head a little I can see where I have been & where I haven't. I always put on atleast a second coat so I'm not too concerned about having unprotected areas.

I used to apply my waxes a bit on the heavy side (before I knew better) until someone brought it to my attention that it comes off easier when it's thinner and only what adheres to the paint is providing the protection and I am just literally throwing the rest away when I am wiping it off.

To answer you question, even though I don't measure I think that 1oz does seem like a bit much. Unless of course you are covering a large SUV or something like that.

I have never use a PC to apply wax or sealant. Wouldn't the product stays on the pad especially using only 1 oz of it?

I'm not sure that I understand your question.
Are you asking if I would be using more product by applying it with a PC

Good one! Sounds like a dry martini recipe: open the bottle of vermouth and let the vapors waft over the gin.
