How the other half lives

One of my sisters took this at the North Carolina Outer Banks last week. Don't know any details, but thought it was interesting.

Years ago, folks used to cut up their Rolls for use on the farm. I guess they'd buy the rich guys throw-aways. Years later, someone else would buy it and restore it. I think this happened to a bunch of those old marques.

I think this guy is just trying to relive those days.

I'd think it *must* be real, it'd be cheaper to do that to an old Phantom than to fake the bodywork/glass/etc.

I myself think "sacrilege" when I see that...I'm betting that the body/interior is the only part that's RR and that it's sitting on a Ford/Chevy/whatever chassis. Now if it *were* built on RR mechanicals, well, that'd be different (but loose that brush bar); I'm reminded of some AWD Bentley station wagons (sorry, oughta say "estates" or "shooting brakes") that were factory recognized, I'd sure like to have one of those...

One of the reasons they cut up old Rolls Royces for agrarian/industrial duties is that the things simply never die with decent maintenance. With heavy duty vehicles scarce in the UK during/after the war years there was a truly practical side to doing this.

Accumulator,

You don't get to the beach much. :lol

Heh heh, man, that's the truth!! Quite the understatement actually, I think the last time was maybe '82  Thanks for the education, yeah, now it looks pretty obvious. I really *do* learn something here every day!

[shudder] The thought of a bunch of fishing poles sticking up from the front of that Silver Cloud is pretty unsettling :scared:

Judging by another car I found on Ebay, it's a 1957 Bentley.

'57 sounds about right as it's a single-headlight one (pre-series III IIRC). Since it's got a Rolls grill I'd figure it for a Rolls...that's about the only real difference between the Rolls/Bentely cars of that era anyhow, stuff like the grill and the badging. But there are always people who mix and match that stuff because they'd rather it look like the other one.
