how strong is dawn!

There is no cure!
my grandfather is here for a couple of weeks until the end of the holidays and i have all the time in the world to play with his car. he has to go back up north and he says that until it gets warm, he will only be able to wash it weekly himself but doesnt plan on applying wax or anything like that until he comes down for the 4th of july. hes actually pretty good when it comes to washing, with the exception of his chamois and one bucket, but other than that its megs deep crystal and qd.

so im thinking why not use this as an opportunity to order some ZAINO and try it out. been putting it aside for a while since there are soo many zainolots pushing it.

well i want to polish it tonight, it has some heavy swirls, but i dont get my order till thursday. i will probably just polish everything off tonight, and probably seal it with some ocw or nattys (easy to apply).

zaino states that u can use dawn dish soap to clean the surface prior to the process, to elimate any wax or oils until then. my question is,

how strong is dawn, and is it indeed powerful enough to strip ocw or nattys completely off to begin the zaino process, or should bust out the old pc and aio it.

i know, dawn should stay in the kitchen, but if i can easily cut this little corner once, why not, right?

input please.

I'd give the simple isopropyl alcohol mixed 50:50 with water a shot. It sounds like this might not be the type of car loaded with layers of LSPs on it so you can you spray the IPA:water before and after your polishing steps. Worked just fine for me on a minimally protected vehicle I recently detailed. Let the IPA:water dwell for a bit (30 sec +/- or so) and it should do well.

Why not just polish the vehicle tonight and then just do a conventional wash Thursday before you apply the Zaino?
It doesn't seem like a couple of days without any protective wax/sealant should do any harm to the paint.

If you're going to polish just leave the protection off for a few days and make a pass with Pro Polish (or similar product) before you put the Zaino on. It's sure to strip everything off, Dawn will be pretty hit or miss and you won't be sure you've got everything off, a chem cleaner will definetly get everything off and will help with LSP bonding to boot.

a QUESTION: is "Dawn" the household name for dish soap? Here "Sunlight" is more common, and people use it on their cars with pride. Great for windows, strips wax, and ruins trim, but a household name.

It is the brand name for one of the more popular dish washing products.

well i just finsihed polishing the car. i applied some qd+ which is more protection that i need. i guess before i use the zaino products ill do a quick AIO.

PEI...you can get Dawn at Sobey's or any local superstore on the island. It's stronger than sunlight...and yes it's a dish soap. I take it the wifey does the shopping?:)
