How often to paint clean or clay?

Have been layering my products for sometime now, and have never paint cleaned. How often do you strip of the old and start a fresh.



My 1999 Peugeot is light blue, free of swirls etc, will i benifit form a paint cleaner? I live in the uk and can buy any consumer product and can usually sweet talk meguirs UK to sell me the trade/proffessional products only sold in the US. If i need to paint clean which product.



Still dont understand the differnce between a paint cleaner and clay, Do they do the same thing? Would i not just be better of buying some Meguiars clay, or do i need to paint clean aswell??



The is some awkard bits of tar in places id like to clay off.

This past weekend I was working on car that had never really been properly cared for (2000 BMW 325; Black). I spend about 1 hour on the hood trying to get the "grit" off with Meguiar's paint cleaner and swirl reducer (by hand; I don't have a buffer), but I could not get all of it off. The next morning I went and bought the Mother's Clay package, read the directions and I was off. It was awesome how it made the paint as smooth as glass. I have now become a huge fan of the clay.
 
cheers. The paint on my car is good, but i think clay will help. I still fancy getting a mild paint cleaner, what would be good?
 
Try the Meguiars Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner (MPPC) it is not too strong or abrasive and quite easy to work with yet it will still remove most minor paint imperfections. After that follow up with some #9 2.0 then top with your favorite wax. Good Luck





P.S. Remember to clay first!
 
I use 3M's liquid cleaner / polish. It is clear coat safe a does a great job on my car. I have also used Meguiar's Medallion Premuim Paint cleaner and it is great too.

I try to clay and clean the paint once per year, usually in the spring, but will spot clay or clean if the paint gets some contaminates or scratches in it.
 
Excellent, will try and clean and clay before my next show in september., and then again after the winter .

My wife's car was first clayed in Feb this year, I just re-clayed this past weekend , only the horizontal surfaces, as they started to feel a little rough, and the paint cleaner (Klasse AIO) wouldn't remove all the contaminants.

Next weekend I'll be claying the roof and hood of my SEAT Leon, 8 months old.



Since using this website besides microfibre my best finding is clay, it makes the paint feels smoother than the windshield glass .
