How often do you wash your MF towels and mits?

I wash my MF towels after every use. I have a container that I put used towels in which gets washed when there enough to throw into the machine.

I usually don't use more than 5 MFs and an occasional foam pad or wash mit, so I put em into a bucket with woolite and very hot water. Let sit for an hour, come back and agitate them and rinse then dry.

I use my MFs once and then put them in a large Rubbermaid tote until they are all dirty. Then I have enough for a full load in the washer (about 45 MFs).

Same goes for the other MFs used for different purposes. I wash each MF "category" separately, and wait until nearly all of that category are dirty.

i rarely wash mine. i have a dark colored car and i have only noticed a scratch from my MF towels one time, and that was because it picked up a piece of dirt in my windshield crack. the only time i really wash them is if i wipe one somewhere and get it dirty or i get a lot of product on it. otherwise, the most "dirtiness" that becomes of them is clean water or wiping off very little product. i'm sure there will be a huge "no-no" poster about this, but i really don't think washing them after every use is necessary unless you use them for reasons that would get them really dirty in the first place. i would say i wash my WW MF about once every 10 car washes and my product MFs about the same.

and i own about 10 MF towels. 45 is a lot of towels. i think some people take unnecessary precautions when it comes to their vehicle's cleanliness (not you whitemaxima, i'm just saying, in general). then again, maybe i'm just a slacker. either way, i'm seriously anal about the appearance of my car and can take you to every blemish on that thing. i've looked at the paint under a light and microscope so many times that i feel like i should be a scientist. no scratches from *dirty* MF towels.

I have 45 because I work on other people's cars as well as my own. It's nice to have enough towels for a whole weekend's worth of work (sometimes 4-5 cars) and not need to wash the towels in between. I can clay/polish/AIO/sealant on every car and have enough MFs without the need to wash them before the weekend is over.

I have 50+ and wash them all after every detail. I have a ton of towels and i use many of them on every detail. If I can tell one is starting to get dirty at all I just grab a fresh one.

Paul has the right idea. With only a dozen or so MF towels, my washing maching easily goes off balance when I wash them. If I had enough MFs to fill the washer, that wouldn't happen.

Oh, here goes the checkbook again! But, it does make a lot of sense.

BTW, I have two plastic containers. One for dirty, one for clean. And, I always wash towels that have worked with abrasive polishes in a separate batch from those that work with LSPs and QDs

And, yes, I use a towel once, and it's into the "dirty box." If I drop it to the ground while outside, that qualifies as "dirty."

Cool I'm glad that I don't have OCD... ok well maybe we all do. :p I use to use my wash mits a few times before I washed them and wash my WW towels would get washed after each use. After I found some scratches while detailing :furious: I decided to change the way I did things and wash everything after just one use. I wish I would have done this sooner as it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration :buffing:

I've never taken the time to count the number of towels I have but I know it's no where near 40. I only have 4 or 5 wash mits, 5 WW towels and a bunch of polishing and general purpose towels. I really need to order more but seeing as I only wash my car once a week and the truck every two weeks I really don't feel like I'm washing my towels all that often

I should add that if I drop a towel to the ground, I set it aside from all other towels. When I get inside, I wash that towel by itself in a bucket, to rinse out any sand or dirt from it. I don't want to throw it in with the rest of the towels, because it doesn't help any if the dirt/sand gets washed out of the towel only to get stuck in another towel.

45 is a lot of towels

We stated counting in the shop a while back and stopped counting at 200.

And also we wash like towels..ie.....polishing, wax, sealant etc.

I always find something on my towels that I have to sit there and pick out before I throw them in the washer and sometimes after I pull them out. Some of this stuff just doesn't ever seem to want to come out

If its touched anything I wash it. If I think its touched anything I wash it.

That's a very, *VERY* good way to do it :xyxthumbs

Heh heh, I won't get started on how many MFs *I* have :o and I hardly ever do anyone else's cars...

But hey 3Dog- >200! It looks like you are finally more off-the-deep-end than I am about something :D But then again, when you say "shop" you don't just mean your home garage like I do...

i've had lots of things happen to my car's paint, none of them have been attributed to a MF towel except the one time a clean one picked up something from a window crack. if you guys can pick up something from a dirty MF then i think you're crazy, haha. i can also look at a MF and tell if it's really clean or not. i dunno, just doesn't seem necessary to me to wash it all the time. that's like filtering the water that you wash your car with or something, although i've actually done that before, lol (water spots otherwise!).
