how often do you replace your wax applicator pads?

Hey guys, was wondering something. How often do you use your mf applicator for wax before you toss them? My pads seem to build up with wax and after 2 or 3 uses and they dont seem like they would be safe on paint.

I wash every pad after each use.

If you guys dont throw them out after a few uses, what do you do to care for your applicator pads other than wash them?

any insight would be appreciated.

oh yea, i use the blue mf applicator pads from walmart.

I always wash out my foam waxing pads after each waxing session (although I'm using the PC to apply wax nowadays). There pretty much as good as new after 10 waxings or so, except for small foam tears from scraping it against an edge or something. I don't think that you need to change out your applicators if you maintain them well after each waxing.

I'm pretty successful at getting wax out of MF apps, although they of course get some staining over time. Those W-M ones are pretty cheap IIRC, if you're worried or having problems I'd just rotate them down to some sort of other duty as suggested.

I use the MF covered foam pads, I dunno if that makes a difference, seemslike the mf holds alot of wax even through numerous washings.

+1

Eventually they do seem to wear and tear a little bit, and at this point, I choose to dedicate them to waxing wheels, under the hood surfaces, and door/trunk jambs. I tend to get 10-15+ uses out of one pad, I immediately wash the pad after each use and let them dry...I also try to use the same product on the same pad, especially something like 476s that tends to have that Collinite smell to it even after you wash them ;)

I personally like the Meguiars yellow foam pads. Two sprays of Dawn Power Disolver and they are like brand new. I'm sure after a few years they will break down, but they seem to be going strong.

yea i wish i could find those megs yellow foam pads. they used to carry them at walmart but they must have discontinued them a while ago, i havent seen them forever!

Yakky, where do you get your megs yellow foam pads from?

You have to hand-massage them with some Dawn to break down the wax/sealant.

Just about every online vendor sells some version of these...perhaps not as inexpensive as getting the Meg's ones at Wal-Mart. I've never bought them there, but I'm sure Pep Boys has some, as well as the other chains.

thanks setec thats what i will do today when i clean them and see how it comes out! i usually throw them in the washine machine, but i will try this approach since mine doesnt seem to be working.

thanks again

Kleraudio, I went to Seattle no too long ago on business and cleared out two Krager's! I came back with about 20x of them I think. I think they are great and of good value.

They were the yellow foam ones, here is a pic of them:

Here's a pic of my MF applicator pad. I've used it dozens of times and it still looks new. I wash it after every use. I don't think all the wax gets washed away, so I don't think you could use it for a tire dressing applicator. I think the wax would bleed out onto the tire and cause problems.

Mine seem to last a long, long time. The pads I use to apply via Cyclo are labeled "Dad's V8 wax" and my late father sold his Audi V8 over seven years ago.

I've had KSG application pads (foam) disintegrate when I din't clean them out very well though. The foam just *crumbled*.

I wash them by hand with Dawn and hot water, maybe a little EFHI or other APC if the Dawn doesn't seem to be working.
