How often do you change to a new wash mitt?

I usually change to a new sponge and throw my old one out when it gets stained with dirt, maybe after 15-2- washes. I'm just wondering how others decide when to throw away there current wash sponge/mitt.

Well I take extremely good care of my sheepskin mitts. One for my Cobra, one for my daily driver. I rinse them after every wash. Once the fibers start pulling off or coming off, then I'll relegate them to wheels/tires and rocker panels. That usually takes about 15 washes though.

I follow the same pattern as blackcaraddict with my sheepskin. I only use sheepskin now. I rinse really well with cool water until all the soap is out. I fling it dry and leave to air dry in the shade. I throw in the dryer on air dry cycle to fluff back up.

I have the new Viking cotton mitts from the recall and they're terrible. They'll be used on the wheels. The fibers are placed too far apart and the mitt where they are stiched into rubs against the surface. :down

Same here. They also start shedding fibers with the first wash. I ditched them by the third wash and have gone back to sheepskin.

I now have two Viking mitts to sell ;)

Sheepskin is great. I use EUROW from Walmarts, BAJA SOL from Targets and Turtle Wax Brand from Autozone. What other brands do people use?

I have the exact same ones as you! Viking makes a nice one too. It has the mesh backing for bugs and stuff. Got mine at KMart. Basically they are all the same.

The best so far is the black sheepskin mitt from CMA that is on sale for $13.95. It's very plush and made from good construction. The padding on the inside is thick. You'd really like it especially if you use the others you mentioned.

Umm.... you're using a sponge?? :scared Sea sponge or.......?

I've been using the same old sheepskin mitt I got from my father over a year ago. Who knows how old the thing really is, but it seems to be wearing very slowly and if anything it's cleaner now than when I got it. I use this one mitt top to bottom (just no wheelwells) no problem. I have a spare mitt ready to go, but I don't see myself needing it any time soon. I bet this mitt will last until the darned stitching falls out! :nixweiss

Sheepskin :bow

I've been having durability issues with the sheepskin mitts at my local wallmart. They seem to fall apart on me way too soon, because they seem to be made of multiple patches of material that are stitched together.

Can anyone recommend a longer lasting sheepskin mitt that I can pick up at a local store?

Man, either you guys are way more anal than I am, or you have really cheap mitts. I typically get 6 months out of chenille mitts (30+ washes), and more than a year out of sheepskin ones before I relegate them to wheels and tires.

I usually just dunk a hand sized rock in the water and wash my car with that.;)

Seriously though, I use a 100% Fieldcrest cotton rag. Every time before I re-dip the rag in the soapy bucket I spray it down good to get all the dirt off.

No, I don't use a sponge. I just couldn't think of the correct word at the time of the post! I use chenille mitts.

Mine is a Wal-Mart Sheepskin and it has been very durable. I

wonder if you just got one from a bad batch? Mine is a single

piece of sheepskin. If I remember correctly it was less than

$10. I've had it about three months now and am doing

two to three washes per week with it.

I have been using my Wal-Mart sheepskin mitt and its still very plush with no falling apart issues. I wash it out after every use and stick in on an old 12 oz beer bottle to dry.

I actually like it better than the 100% chenille mitts I have. It seem softer and tends to hold the wash soap longer IMO.

:bow to Costco.

3 fluffy, soft sheepskin products for $7.

- 1 mitt with thumbs (sheepskin on both sides) <- the best

- 1 mitt (sheepskin on one side; synthetic w/ net on other side) <- wish it was double-sided

- 1 pad (sheepskin on both sides) <- useful for grungier work - no need to rinse out the insides

Lasts 1/2 a year.
