Forgive me if this is an out of line question but I want to get an idea on where this business could go for me when im out of college. So with that said how much are you pro's making in a year? mobile or fixed it doesnt matter.

If you are in it for the money, do something else out after college. Sometimes it's just easier to collect a check....

Started my fixed location in January of 07 and just started paying myself last week. We turned a profit the first year(not much), but I put everything back in to the business.

Take any number that anyone gives you and take off 30%, which is the general rule on people telling you how much they make.

If you ask a guy how many broads he slept with, divide the number he tells you by 3.

If you ask a broad how many guys she slept with, multiply the number she tells you by 3.

How much do you want to make? It is that easy.

Great reply. You have to work harder for yourself than you have ever worked for anyone else. You also have to have a passion for Detailing, because it is work. It's not all about the money either! DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

Im going to college for computers which is a very stable career path, I just like owning my own business and managing myself, making my own ours even if they can be long and writing my own paycheck. As of right now Im just looking to get enough money help me live nicely in college and so I dont have to get a campus job. Here in NY the winter has been pretty bad so im thinking this spring will yield a lot of customers. Anyway thanks for the responses even if they were not exacltly what I was looking for.

Hopefully web design but I have many options with computers: IT, work for the government, computer repair the list goes on. But if I could make this a solid business I would rather do this than computers.

I'm a college student as well and recently started my own detailing business. The hourly wage is great but if you dont have cars you wont the hours. The job is very stress free because it doesn't even feel like work for me as detailing is my hobby. The business has made an effect on my school performance though. Make sure you got the schooling thing down before you take on this project. Some detailers make thousands a month some dont make as much. Really depends on your effort and how lucky you'll get with your clientele. Best of luck to you!

I make more now than I did as a Journeyman Tech at a dealership. I walked away from a good paying(but back braking) job and decided to try my hand at Detailing.

I always liked detailing for theraputic reasons. Im a detailer and I restore cars to a point. My mechanical background helps my business. Now I make more money and enjoy my business and my toys. I charge anywhere from 50-75 dollars per hour. I also sell my own products so theres always cashflow coming in even when its 20 degrees outside and all of my clients toys are put away. I guess what Im saying is there is good money in detailing if you do it right.

Well thats good to hear, around here in upstate NY I think there is only one other detailer that I have seen on the forum that is near me, far enough apart so we dont compete which is nice, being the only one around my town is good if I can establish a good base of clients and show off some impressive work.
