How much can a PC take out?

I am interested in getting a PC but am wondering how much I can really expect to take out. I have a dark green car with some scratches that are white but don't catch my finger nail and plenty smaller scuffs. Also my hood has small white specks. I can get a picture later.

Thanks

I did this with 2000 grit sand paper, my PC and Sonus pad using 3m compound and finish restorer.

Great question...I am currently at work but tonight when I get home I will post pictures of some pretty heavy swirls I removed via PC and polishing pad on a black truck...I think you'll be suprised!

Here are some pictures. Besides the regular swirls I have some weird things like this.

This is the size of a quarter. Paint feels smooth above it I think.

This is the most obvious scratch on the car. It is about 3inchs long but it doesn't catch my figure nail.

Besides the swirls the weird dot in the middle seems to be ontop of the paint or right in the surface. It is just a dull area that doesn't feel smooth.

These are all small white spots on the hood. Any chance that these will come out minus the few dots that are decent size chips?

Thanks a lot!

I would pick up some clay as well - That area that you said seems "dull" It almost looks like someone burned all the way throught the clear and paint!!

Or it could be cement or some paint on paint transfer?

Good advice regarding the clay. If that is paint on paint, you might be able to get that out if it's a surface deal... and probably all those white dots.

The white dots don't look like they are on the surface. I could try clay but don't know how it will do. The previous owner was a smoker even though the interior smells fine. Maybe that spot is a cigarette burn in the paint?

blkyukon . what products did u use to clean thoese swirls on the green car.

and are those swirls fall into bad swirl catagory? or meddium ? light ? lol

I used 3M PII FC with a cutting pad to remove the deep swirls in that paint...I've since changed to Poorboys SSR3 for deep swirls, easier to work with.

They were pretty bad - years of gas station car washes -

Here is the before and after

It would take alot of work and time to get those out with SSR2.5 and I still don't know if it would get them all out.

It has been a while since I did that one but if I remember right it was:

3M PII FC (cutting pad) , follow with either #83 or #82 (polishing pad to remove any hazing) finished with GEPC (polishing pad and CMW (by hand)

Here are some more shots of it:

Joshua, what products and pads did you use?

Process was:

50/50 mix of Optimum Compound and Polish via Meguiars Polishing Pad

Meg's #80 via Meguiars Polishing Pad

Meg's #80 via Meguiars Finishing Pad

Here is a better picture of the results:

Sorry for no sun shots, it was a pretty cloudy day. I will be doing a full exterior detail on this truck in 2 weeks so look for some sun shots then :)

So if I go ahead and get a PC what would be good products to take out the problems I've posted? The car is a 1997 dark green mustang if it matters for paint hardness or anything.

Thanks!
