How many times

How many times to you think a vehicle can be polished before the clear coat really starts to diminish? I know this will depend on how aggresive of polishes that you use.

Let use my 03 Silverado as an example. My truck has been polished maybe 5 times.

Tough question to answer. Polished 5 times, but with what kind of polish, rotary or da, how many passes, etc. Get a PTG to be safe.

Can anyone give me an estimate based on the products described above?

At this point, should I be concerned with my truck being polished 5 times?

I'd think you're still good. I wouldn't worry to much about polishing diminishing the clear, I'd be more worried about it if it was ever wet sanded, then you really need to be concerned.

The only way to tell is to use a paint thickness gauge.

No one here can tell you for sure.

I can say I only polished this one car once with m105/m205 but I don't know if I would want to go at it again since I went so agressive with the m105.

Basically, it doesn't matter what amount of information you give us, type of polish/pad/machine , # of passes, and for what length of time, the only way of knowing is to get some readings.

Just know that a DA won't kill your clear as much because it doesn't produce enough heat. But polishing once a year would be most ideal, IMO.

I wouldn't be concerned, but use good washing and drying tecniques. You may have to spot buff a few areas occasionally, but not a full polish job. You car is like a yard. If you take care of it, there's less to do. Every so often, use a paint cleaner before waxing. Most paint cleaners have no abrasives and are chemical cleaners.

True and not true...

true that it would be a fine task to exhaust the clear coat of a properly painted vehicle with good ptg readings using a DA.

Not true that is because it doesn't produce enough heat.... the heat is simply a product of the friction that is occuring not a reason why it would be difficulty to strike thru the clear.
