How many pads will I need? (1Z polishes on a Audi A4)

I am about to take the plunge and finally order a PC. I will be using the buffer with 1Z polishes (UPP, PP & MP) on my '98 Audi A4 with moderate swirling. I am looking for some advise on pad choices. Currently, I am planing on placing the order with CMA, but I need some advice on pads before I pull the trigger.

It seems obvious that I would use the yellow pad with the UPP, white/PP, and grey/MP. However Im sure that I could use the white pad with the UPP or the yellow pad with the PP to fine tune the abrasive level. My question is, how many pads of each color will I need to get the job done? Right now Im thinking 2-yellow, 2-white, and 1-grey. Im planing on doing the Klasse by hand.

TIA!

Possible order from CMA

Here's what I use when I do an Audi without resorting to the rotary or Cyclo:

Ultra/cutting, Paint Polish/cutting, Paint Polish/polishing, Metallic Polish/polishing.

No need to use the finishing pad with a polish on Audi paint, it's too hard for the MP/finishing combo do accomplish anything.

But get extra pads because [stuff] happens.

Oh, and FWIW, *I* wouldn't put the Klasse over the 1Z. The 1Z leaves *such* a nice look that I can never bring myself to AIO it and SG won't stick to MP. I'd top it with something else; I currently have 4-Star UPP (formerly "Platinum") on my S8 and I really like the way it looks over 1Z polishes. I tried using Menzerna FP as my penultimate step product, but I so preferred how the 1Z looked that I reapplied MP on the area I'd just used FP on. Gonzo has a different opinion, so see what *you* think.

Warning- Getting the marring out of the Audi clear might be more work than you expect.

Absolutely true

I have a black A4 and use the 1z. I use isopropyl alcohol to ensure Klasse will bond and in addition I often just finish off the 1z polishes with Menzerna final polish anyway before applying AIO and SG.

I think that I am going to order 1 yellow, 2 white and mabey one grey pad for stuff like GEPC. I will save the Klasse for fall/winter when I need the extra protection up here in the northeast. Could you recommend anything else to put over the 1Z polishes to bring out a deep, wet finish on my black Audi?

Heh heh, one last attempt to save you some frustration: get that extra cutting pad ;) OK, I'll drop it now, but remember I told ya so ;)

No need for the GEPC, the MP is basically the 1Z equivalent.

For your LSP, if you don't wanna go with the 4-Star UPP, I'd probably just recommend Glanz on a black car. The "all 1Z look" would be great on it, IMO. And I'm not sure the "advantages" of the 4-Star would be so pronounced on black anyhow (compared to my silver).

you mean 6 is too many???

Thanks for all of your help. I wasn't planing to use the GEPC at the same time as the 1Z, but I might want to use it for touch ups later on. Ill post some pick once im done.
