How Many of You Have Known

...a fallen comrade in arms ? I know our American brothers suffered more heavy losts than us Canadians, but last week reality hit close to home when one of my friend was killed in Afghanistan to an IED, he along with 2 of his soldiers were killed in that incident. Today, I attended his military funeral with a bunch of friends that we grew up and served with which I had not seen in 10-15 years, it was a proud and sad occassion.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, and very grateful for his service. I have no doubt you'll be receiving plenty of supportive messages and links in your email, but here's one video I find very powerful. It's "Arlington" by Trace Adkins (if you can stomach country music). I guess radio stations consider it too political because I've never heard it on the air, but he conveys his message in a very respectful manner.

I'll also mention that my 22 y/o son is strongly considering joining the Marines this year and my 16 y/o step-son is planning to sign up for the delayed entry program for the Army to enlist when he finishes high school. It's terrifying to contemplate them being deployed, but I support them and consider it an honorable thing to do.
