how loud is equipment (mobile detailers)

Just wondering what your DB levels are for your equipment, be it your pressure washer/generator/etc. I'm looking to purchase some new stuff as I'm tired of my old worn out trailer, power washer and generators. I mean realistically did you ever have any complaints about the noise? If you don't mind post your set so I can compare and see. Thanks!

I have a Porter Cable generator and the Brigg motor screams. I never had complaints. I'm sure some said something but not to me. I know Honda generators are quiet. But you are going to pay good money for one. If you have the cash, it would be worth to look into one. Onan is another good unit and quiet. good luck

Not loud at all. Electric PW, Honda generator, and Wap vacuum. I purposely bought these pieces of equipment because they are quiet. Mobile detailing is a convenience service; it is a bit of an inconvenience to have loud equipment running at your house.

I doubt anyone would complain... If you're a mobile detailer, you're not there 24/7, and if you're working during the day, most people would be at work anyways.

That said, I'm NOT a fan of Honda in any way shape or form, but, they do make excellent generators. I'm a fixed location shop, and will be investing in a Honda generator.

I disagree I think noise on a job site is disturbing to a customer.. especially if your in a suburban neighborhood. .. and most of the times im detailing a customers car in their driveway I get several nosey neighbors that come up to me and talk to me cause they see my sign in the street.. would be kind of hard to talk with a lot of noise going on.

Tell you the truth I don’t even have a generator I tell the customer I have a long extension cord and they usually have no problem supplying an outlet.. I know that does not make me 100% mobile but I don’t feel like forkin out the money for a generator when I have not had one time I had to use one.

As far as pressure washer.. never needed one either.. plus with the water restrictions these days I would not want one anyway.

Loudest piece of equipment I have is my air compressor and when I plug that bad boy in to fill up I keep all my doors closed so there is hardly any sound.

I have never had any complaints of noise. In fact if anything, it has stirred up more business. For example in a parking garage and polishing. Though these are ONR washes and close outlets, not generators.

br, how do you like the wap vacuum? I do want to get one. What model do you have?

Awesome piece of equipment. Very quiet but very powerful. I have had mine for 5 years, and used it most every day. The only thing I have had to replace is the power cord and the carbon brushes.

Anytime I am polishing I have ear eye and mouth and nose protection in place.....THESE PRODUCTS ARE POISON! Where safety equipment...its no joke.

What products are you using that are poison? If your polishes are dusting that much, you should look at other options.

I'll start by saying more protection is always better than less, very true.

That said, the only one I'd personally worry about when polishing is ear protection. Nose perhaps too if you're in an enclosed area. While polish for sure isn't something I'd want to eat or sniff up my nose, there are a lot more harsh chemicals that a detailer uses. Degreaser is a huge one, wheel cleaner, brake cleaner, even interior cleaners.

And (again, my own personal opinion), I'd be most worried about absorption of chemicals through your skin, in particular, the hands. I ALWAYS wear nitrile work gloves when detailing, whether it be a nasty interior or a simple wax. Granted, yes, I'm now absorbing nitrile and whatever other chemicals the gloves are made out of, but I'll take my chances with that.

I'm not sure of the decibal levels of any of the equipment we all use daily. I do know that over a period of time ,they can all do damage to ones hearing. I worked in steel fab shops the majority of my life.So when I'm detailing ,ie, running the vac, extractor, buffer, generator or pressure washer. I have the trusty ear plugs in. Better safe than sorry. HUH!

Please dont take me quite so literally. If your breathing them for 38 years without a mask you might be running an unhealthy risk. There are many risks associated with chemicals. I have a skin disease associated with one or more of the chemicals I use. Its hard to pinpoint which one is more aggravating to my hands. I do work near the paint shop at times where the real poisons are. Most safety data sheets tell you use a respirator. Any chemical I have to work around I consider TOXIC perhaps poison was not a good choice of words...again I stand humbly corrected. TOXIC is a better word. My products hardly flash off but I can smell them....thats why I use my respirator. At work I wont touch a patient without gloves.

About 25 years ago I had a piece of paint I was compounding on the surface of my right eye. The clincher is I had safety glasses in place but it went in from the side. I had to have surgery to remove the paint chip in my good eye. Now I would NEVER pick up a wheel without full safety goggles in place. Like I said I always use a full respirator to cover my mouth and nose. The guys around the shop call me the surgeon.... Bunch of asses if you ask me. I give a dam about my health, what can I say.

I hope this clarifies how serious I take safety. I may never find out what chemical flares up my skin. I have been doing this since 1969...OK I dont consider myself an antique...at least not yet. My doctor said I should STOP anything to do with cars and their nasty chemicals ....I told him this is the way Im going down...bury me in one of my muscle cars. Thats the way it is. THINK SAFETY ALWAYS. Its as important as anything worth doing is worth doing right.

I disagree with you sir. My main business is carpet cleaning and 95% of my work is in suburban neighborhoods. I have a huge truckmounted machine and it is very loud. I have never had any complaints about the noise level.

I also use the same machine for mobile detailing. Although i wish my van wasn't so cramped up by all the carpet cleaning equipment.

No, this is all in the name of fun....now and always....I call this forum the great debate. Its like chocolate and vanilla. PS I like them both. I really like everyones opinion....BUT opinions like they say are like ***------ everybody has one. Its always great to hear how surprised people are when I tell them what has worked for me for 38 LONG years. I dont take any of this on a personal level. I never got riled either but Thanks for the concern....that was genuine!
