How long till first wax?

hey all,

My girlfriend just got an 05 scion TC which is a beautiful little car. I can't wait to make the paint shine. My question is how long until proper paint care can begin. I have read that you should wait a certain amount of time to let the paint "settle" or whatever. Is there any truth to that?

Its a deep silver/grey metalic color, not quite black but not quite silver. I want to make it look great (ie souveran) but dont want to spend that much on wax.

I have nattys, ssr1, ssr2.5 ex,

Maybe clay it then nattys???

any advice.

Thanks as always:xyxthumbs

Man we should make this a sticky or something...

New cars, have at it, its safe.

Re-paints, min. of 30 days.

Hey, it is highly advised that you also clay the vehicle.

You most likely have stuff stuck to the paint.

Most new cars are baked and been painted for about a month before they arrive at your dealer. Who knows how many weeks its been on the lot. You only have to worry about repainted cars. As far as care for a new car inspect the surface, many cars have contaminants from the shipping process and do the appropriate process. Wash, clay if needed, prewax cleaner (use non abrassive ones), wax.

what prewax cleaner do you recommend? megs DACP?

Not Jetskie but my $0.02-

DACP/#83 is a pretty strong *abrasive* polish. I'd only use that if the TC has some pretty serious marring to correct, and then you'll still probably need to follow up with a milder product. Sorta doubt that this is what you need to be doing.

Since you have SSR1, I'd probably just use that. As I understand it (haven't used it myself) it's a very mild polish, so it'll basically behave like a paint cleaner.

Or you could buy a product just for this, like AIO or Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion (the two I usually choose between) or the stuff in Meg's Deep Crystal system (parts 1 and 2). There are a scad of others that people will probably post about, if not you can find them with a search.

Sorry JBM guess that was a stupid question:nixweiss

Thanks for the help

The only 'stupid' question is the one you'd wished you had asked"

The more I think about it Autopia is missing a frequently asked question(FAQ) section. And as was suggested this would be one of them. But better be safe and ask than ruin your paint...

My favorite for new car is P21 GEPP. Its a little difficult to get but you can use the S100 version at your local Harley Dealer. If your talking about a consumer products that your local parts store carry I would use either Mothers Step 1 and 2 or Meguiar Deep Crystal 1 &2. You can skip the prewax cleaner if your using a cleaner wax.

He's right, DACP is a bit strong for brand new paint...unless the dealer installed the 'Swirls Plus Package' when they prepped it for you.

Better choices from the Megs line would be Consumer series DC #1 or Color-X and from the Pro Line #80 Speed Glaze or the #9 Swirl Remover
