How long does Upp slickness last?

3 weeks ago I did my winter beater (a toyota corolla) with :

AIO

SG

Upp.

It was slick and it looked good. I washed it twice and now All of the slickness is gone. I washed it with Meguiars Gold Class.

How long has Upp lasted for you?

I have never used UPP, but that is the general opinion I read about it. It loses is slickness much quicker than other sealants. I really want to try UPP, but slickness is one of my pet peeves lol.

Meaning what? You don't like slick products? Or you want forever-slick products?

UPP's slickness has lasted varying times for me, depending on what I use to wash the car with. NXT soap always diminishes the slickness of whatever I'm using. QEW retains the slickness of whatever. So my conclusion has been that it's not the product's fault for losing slickness, it's the wash solution that changes it.

I agree. The type of soap you use factors into the slickness. I found that using Pinnacle Shampoo does not strip the slickness as much as say Meguiars GC. I get about 3 weeks slickness before I get the itch to put another coat of UPP on. It could possibly give more for me but I never go beyond 3 weeks. I have had Zaino on my car for over a month now and I love it. However I am getting ready to go back to UPP because I loved the look and feel of it.

UPP looks and feels great for about a week. then it starts to diminish no matter what. It's the initial slickness that gets ya...

I've move UPP to more of a 'impress' wax than a real life wax. If I have a potential customer, good friend, or hot girl comin over, and they're gonna see the car, I'll throw a coat of UPP on it... Then make sure they touch it..

But other than that...

I liked the results of UPP. Very wet look and very slick but I was shocked that all of the slickness was gone after 2 washes. Souveran has lasted longer for me.

I guess I will put on another coat since its so easy to do. I will stick to #26 as my winter topper.

Not surprised that happened with Gold class.

Also what quick detailer are you using after washing

Have UPP on my car after FMJ and it's great

Wash it every week with 1Z perls (in the bucket) and four star Ultimate auto wash shampoo on the microfibre wash mitt

The 1Z restores slickness and improves durability more than four star but FS improves shine and really lathers up better than any other shampoo.

The perfect combo.

QD - menzerna acrylic shield

Optimum shampoo is a really great cleaner but doesn't lather up as much.

It passes the skin test with flying colors and is my third favourite followed closely by eimann fabrik power wash and detailers pride (old label)

Also my shampoo bucket is filled with a mix of cold purified water and very warm tap water

Find having the water warm helps soften it and considering it's winter now it's a great thing in the morning when I wash before the sun comes up.

I agree 100%. It's the slickest product I have used and really impresses you until about the second wash than it drops off a lot.

QEW leaves wax behind so I wouldn't say it maintains the slickness of a LSP. It adds it's own slickness and that is what you are feeling.

Same here... try UPP side by side with a durable sealant like Zaino to really see now quickly the slickness of UPP diminishes, it is shocking!

UPP has a VERY slight edge in slickness over Z2 Pro immediately after application, after 24 hours, its neck and neck and after a few days heavy rain or one wash, Z2 Pro is the slicker of the two. This same trend continues until around the 4th week when UPP no longer beads or sheets water and Z2 Pro is still going strong. This is all based on two side by side tests conducted over well prep'ed paint (AIO in one case, FPII in the other) with no use of any QD or special shampoos like Perls which add protection. Just the two sealants, standing on their own merits.

What is sad is that some carnubas offer better durability than UPP; given the ppor durabilityI have to consider UPP a "beauty wax" and I now use my remaining supply just as a "quick protectant" over other products. I do not see myself buying it again.

Well, I used UPP its look very good on darker cars.

Then I use PB EX-P, it appeared to me, EX-P last abit longer than UPP....The slickness on UPP at the initial apply it look awesome, no doubt about that. But for longevity, I think EX-P or SG last tad bid longer then UPP.

I haven't used UPP yet, but i'm kinda surprised to hear how fast it loses its slickness :( . I do have a bottle of 4* UGE so i'm hoping that will regain some of the slickness.

Is loss of slickness being equated with durability? If so, should it be? If not, how long have people found its durability? I know this depends on car wash, QD, etc., but a rough figure would be nice. :)

in my experience, i wouldn't say slickness equals durability. the last time i used UPP, the slickness lasted until the first wash, and pretty much disappeared after that despite trying different washes (QEW) or QDs (S&W, Sonus, Final Inspection). yet, it would still bead, and it lasted for a month before i stripped it off to try another combo.

to retain whatever slickness you can, avoid meguiar's car wash soaps as they kill any slickness. poorboy's SS&S car wash soap is pretty good in that it doesn't kill all of the slickness. also following up with a QD like 4*'s Ultimate Gloss Enhancer may help a little.

an alternative, albet an expensive one, is menzerna's fmj. similar slickness, but it seems to retain its slickness a little better. i tested the fmj and upp (half of the car got each sealant), and went through the same wash and QD. and the fmj side seemed to hold onto its slickness better. like i couldn't feel any slickness on the UPP side, while i could feel some slickness on the FMJ side.

I find it still beads after loosing the slickness. The initial slickness slowly diminishes over the first few weeks.

I've gone 2 months without reapplying UPP. At that stage I wouldn't say the beads were 'just about gone' -- but they definately weren't as strong and tight as initial application. (It could have gone for a bit longer)

Also, from my observations...MGC Wash -- and especially generous amounts of it kills the slickness. I like using Z7 when I can.
