How long do abrasives last?

For instance..using MEG ScratchX to remove swirls....How often should I use this?

if you are using a product like ScratchX to REMOVE swirls

the results will last until YOU put more swirls back into the paint

it best thing to do is learn to wash and dry the car without putting swirls in the paint

so you would use it as needed

Thanks. Is there any harm of using this too often though? Not that I plan on it. And do car washes remove ScratchX or is that only fillers? I guess that question really doesnt make sense but oh well...just a big noobie I am.

I not sure you get it

let me try again

Scratch is not something you apply

you work it into the paint the and it 's abbrasives remove defects

it changes the way the paint looks and there is nothinfg that fades away

Alright. Best to follow that up with the MEG wax?

yes, remove the defects as best you can with scratch X, then wax to protect.....there are waxes that do not fill in slight defects, and there are waxes that will fill in the defects, making them appear to be gone.

reason behind fillers is to HIDE the defects to prevent the constant removal of clearcoat...obviously the more often you use a compound, the faster you will lose the clearcoat, so its best to remove to a satisfactory amount, then use filling waxes on a DD

on a show car, no fillers are used as optimal results are required, and produced through compounding and polishing everything out!!!

bmw06330i- Think of it (using Scratch-X) like sanding scratches out of a piece of wood. The abrasives in the Scratch-X "sand" down the paint around the scratch until it's all level with the *bottom* of the scratch's "valley". You don't want to do this *too* often because you'll eventually "sand away" too much clear.

So as BigJimZ28 said, the trick is to not mar the paint again in the first place, which usually happens during the wash. Easier said than done....
