How Hard Is BMW Clear? (upcoming correction)

I'd appreciate any info you guys can offer. My brother in-law just bought an 06 BMW 3 series sedan and wants it polished. Before I get into it I'd like to have an idea on how hard the clear is on these cars.

Ohh, plus.. He's kind of anal when he's buying something, but doesn't really know what to look for at the same time.. I wonder how he's going to take it when I tell him I noticed a couple panels were repainted when I was looking at it yesterday. haha he'll hate me.

Thanks. I'm using a Makita Rotary.. Would you recommend starting out with a white CCS pad and Poli-Seal and if it needs a little more bite, switch to white CCS pad and OPll?? The products I currently have are Optimum Compound ll, Poli-Seal, OP ll.. And I was thinking of #26 for an LSP since the car is black.

Any thoughts on my game plan? I still have to buy alot more polishes, but that's what I have until next week, when I place another order.

My experience of BMW varies... some have been moderately soft, others have been very hard (E46 was the hardest I have come across).

I would be prepared for all eventualities, as is prudent with any potential detail - start off with a polishing pad and something like 106FA Final Finish, or Megs #205 and assess both what correction you achieved and if possible what thickness you removed, the latter being the biggest indication of the hardness of the paint.

Work up until you get what you want :)

Thanks alot, guys. I'll go ahead and place an order for a wider variety of polishes for this job. I appreciate the help.

I have a 2004 bmw z4 and have found that it is a pretty hard clear. a purple foam wool pad is what did the trick for me with rids and swrils but now i just use meguiars yellow polishing pad. Just remember to start out with the least cut possible you can always get more agressive.
