How does ZPC compare to .....???

Hey all,

I recently got through my first full polish on my '98 silver 328i. I used the PC w/ 5.5" LC white pads and the ZPC that I picked up shortly before Christmas.

For those who may have used ZPC and polishes from Optimum and Menzerna, I'm curious to find out how ZPC measures up to any of the products in those lines. Since I've only used ZPC, I'd like to know where it falls in comparison to those products in terms of how aggressive it is, how it finishes, ease of use (dusting, cleanup, work times, etc).

I'm thinking the ZPC and white pads may not be aggressive enough for defect removal on the BMW clear, but I wanted to compare notes with others who have more experience and see what they have found.

Thanks for the info!

OP less cut than Z-PC

OPC about the same initial cut as Z-PC but Z-PC finishes at a higher gloss via diminishing abrasives.

OPC + OP with polishing pad would = Z-PC

Meg's "Light Cut" and Menzerna IP followed by Z-PC using PC works very well on 2000 > BMW clear

I'd suggest using ZPC with an orange pad to make it more agressive. It will still finish down nice enough to apply your LSP. Use very little product. I put about 10 SMALL dots on the pad and begin to work it in. You can follow up with a softer pad and see if you can see a difference. I've compared finishes with ZPC vs FP2 and they look the same to me.

ZPC is probably the easiest polish I've used. Compared to Menzerna IP, for example, ZPC gives you more work time, IP dusts up while ZPC never does, and ZPC finishes cleaner like a final polish.

ZPC also has better range ... meaning it can be used to knock down most swirls (using a yellow cutting pad, for example), or as a final polish (using a white polishing pad). I wouldn't use IP that way.

BMW clear is a tough coat, so I do use Menzerna IP or even Optimum compund for nastier swirls. But ZPC covers 95% of the work I want done.

I'd stay with ZPC if you like how it works, but maybe add something with more bite for the rough spots.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Sounds like ZPC can be a pretty good product and aggressive enough for the BMW clear with the right pad.

From this thread and others, I think I may have used too much product. I was loading up the pad (X pattern or star) for each panel when I probably could have gotten away with loading it once at the beginning and then just adding a few drops for each new panel thereafter.

Sound about right?
