How do you make metal flake show in pics?

I wonder how all you detailers with good photogrpahy skills are able to show off the metal flake in your photo's. With my old film camera with spot mertering and manual apeture/shutter settings I could do it. Using my Nikon P4 I cant. Guess it's forget about metal flake or buy a DSLR with more manual control. Has anybody be able to capture the flake with a point n shoot digital? If so how?

Thanks

Never tried it, but as I was a professional photographer in a former life, here are some ideas. Its all about the camera and light angle. Don't use the on camera flash.

There are some Canon and I suspect Nikon's, etc that are point and shoot get have manual controls.
