How do you guys apply RMG?

Recently, I've been seeing that many more Autopians are using RMG on their cars and or client cars. The results look fantastic. I've been using RMG too but i get inconsistent results. Sometimes i see the depth increase and sometimes I don't.

I just wanted to ask you pros, Whats the best way to apply RMG via pc? How much product? etc. thanx

RMG by blue Sonus Finishing pad (Speed 3-4) Work it until it almost seems to dissolve into the paint. Once the pad is primed I dont seem to need to add much more product.

Was getting great depth by hand but PC makes it far easier.

Can I layer RMG on top of EX? I would like to see what it looks like but just put a fresh layer of EX down ever the weekend. I know it may not last long, but is it a complete waste of time and product?

If I've got the cyclo on hand - black LC finishing pad.

If I don't - Blue Propel via rotary @900rpm

I don't ever do RMG via hand, probably cause I got bad fingers and it kills me to.

how much do you guys use to prime the pad with RMG? Since it is so watery, I keep finding that I didn't apply enough so with a "dry" pad, I keep introducing marring into a freshly prep'd surface. I then have to break out the FPII again to get rid of the marring and start again.

I finally gave up and applied RMG by hand because I didn't want to waste half a bottle priming the pad...

I have my RMG sitting here....I havent try out yet, but this weekend I might give a shots.

How watery its watery? Can you say its like KSG?

on an already primed pad I use a quick squirt around the perimiter of the pad. When applying i use either LC blue pads (you shouldnt get any marring from these while you are "priming the pad") or black LC pads (shouldnt get any marring from these either.)

It is watery but after a panel or two you dont need very much and it will disappear into the paint, that is when I wipe it off.

It works great on the rotary around 800-1000 RPMs as noted above.

KLNYC I havent used SG is a long time but if I remember right it is thicker than KSG.

Hmmm.... can't figure out what I have been doing wrong then. On my black car, using a clean, dry black LC pad, I put about 3/4 - 1 oz of RMG as evenly as I could around the entire pad (not getting 100% coverage given the consistency) and after doing a single section at speed 5 on the PC, I was getting noticable micro-marring when compared to the untouched areas around it.

I even tried a couple different black LC pads and dropped it to speed 4, just in case it was something with the first pad or too fast, but got the same results.

My RMG is the consistency of something like SSR1. Do I have the same stuff?

That is a good comparison as to what mine looks like.

How do you store your black pads? I have not had marring and I have ULTRA soft paint that marrs VERY easily. I cna only think you are using a LOT of pressure on the PC or that your pads have dust or dirt on them??

I wash my pads after every use, air dry them, then stored in individual ziplock bags and the bags are stored in a sealed plastic bin.

Might be applying too much pressure. I don't recall how hard I was pressing down but I don't usually apply much pressure on any of the products I use.

Guess I will have to keep experimenting...

:nixweiss I wish I could see it first hand to help you out. What does the marring look like? is there a definate pattern to it?

ummm its not your towel that is causing the marring is it? I dont mean to be insulting but maybe there is/was something on the towel you were using that day? I am just trying to think of different things other than the pad that may have caused it.

:nixweiss My bottles of RMG are definitely not watery, more like the consistancy of Meguiars #26 or Poorboy's EX w/carnauba.

I apply it with a blue Propel finishing pad with the speed on 4-5 and work it until it practically disappears into the paint.

I'm pretty sure it was the pad and not the towel. The marring looks like millions of fine scratches that are consistent across the entire area touched. Very similar to the marring you would get using something agressive like SSR2.5/3 with a yellow pad and would normally use SSR2 or SSR1 to finish off.
