How do you get those first few clients?

Ive been practicing and building up my product base and skill for many months now on my vehicles and my family;s vehicles, and the time has come for me to start doing weekend details for some extra money. My question is how do I go about getting those first couple customers? (my thought is to do an amazing job on thier cars at a fair price, and start spreading my base through word of mouth.) This is something I really love that reaxes me and is VERY appealing to me, and I definately want to get a business going and eventaully have enough clients to take it full time eventually.

TTT for ya, I also wouldnt mind some pointers here....

I've got business cards going on display at the counter at the local AutoZone and Lil' Peach (Convenience store) tomorrow, but could use some other ideas as well!

I first started on family...to get practice and technique. Then, through word of mouth from my family, I started to get their friends, co-workers, etc. Then, while I was at my first customer, it was a neighborhood, I had three neighbors approach me, and ask for info. At the time I was working out of my wifes Trailblazer and I did not have a sign or any advertisment. One of the neighbors has been with me for the last three years. Usually family friends and neighbors are a great starting point. Just ask your family to tell everyone they know about your business venture.

Get some business cards printed and go out and talk to people. It is basically that simple. Talk to at least 25 people per day and you will absolutely get at least one new detailing customer.
