How do you get rid of scuffs on vinyl/plastic??

Almost every car I see has those black/grayish scuff marks from shoes and stuff on the vinyl/plastic areas, especially on the doors. I've been wondering for the longest time, is there a way to get those off? Are some of those permanent? I''ve used APC to clean vinyl in some family members cars and I know its working well because I see how the towels turn black when I wipe off the APC, but those scuff marks just stay there and its annoying because sometimes there are so many that it doesn't really look like the plastic/vinyl is clean. So any suggestions on procedures or products out there?

They can be very difficult to remove. Solvents such as D'Limonene sometimes work. The Magic Eraser may work, but I have never liked the concept in which it cleans; basically lots of friction and I believe abrasive material.

Magic Eraser is merely a chemical cleaner in a soft foam 'scrubber' - it is not an abrasive.

Try an APC like Simple green - usually works for me.

Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser is very abrasive.

You need to look up the definition of abrasive. 'Abrade - to rub or scrape away'.

The foam that the cleaner is impregnated in is as soft ot softer than the foam used for polishing pads...If there's any abrasion, it comes from the hand of the user. I guess you could say that an MF towel is abrasive - but I wouldn't.

I've never seen a magic eraser leave abrasion marks - even when I used it with all my might to try and get the hopeless yellow stains off the vinyl flooring from the rubber backed carpet - with that force, anything truely abrasive would have gone to the subfloor or basement.

if they are scratches or gouges, no cleaner will take them out. i used to install car audio and we would use wax to fill in deep ones. but once the material has been altered, you really cant clean it
