How Do You Deal With Humidity and Temp?

Many Rainy days I have time to detail my car. But the humidity causes problems with how the wax sets up. I do not have a climate controlled garage and probably never will. Is there a trick to working around this type of weather?

Currently my wax of choice is Meguier's # 16

Thanks

Do you* work at night while the sun is setting.

Get a halogen light if you need to see the imperfections.

*edit to "your"

I am not talking about being able to see the work or not. The problem being that when it damp outside the wax won't set up. It may dry on the surface of the paint but still leaves a greasy residue when buffed off by hand.

But I could see how a halogen lamp would help to dry things up...and help me see my work better, thanks.

Sorry, what i meant to write was "Do your work at night"

I wasn't asking a question, instead suggesting to work at night. :)

I think your using to much wax, try using much less to another part of the auto or to another auto. Most people use way to much during waxing thinking a little is good, so more must be better, but as you are finding out, this isn't so.

I like in Houston where the summer humidity is 80% most of the summer. The dew point is usually 80F. The big problem I have is when the air temperature hits the dew point. At that temperature you will get condensation on the car. Do not work under these conditions. If it is in the evening, work in the garage to use the residual heat of the day to keep you above the dew point. If it is in the morining and you are getting dew, wait until it warms up a little.

That being said, use thin coats as lpquick says. This just compounds the problem on humid days. You also need to give more time to set. With NXT in the summer humidity it is taking 20 minutes to set.

Wow if you at night the dew point always get me but Im in Baltimore its sticky here in the summer

Yeah we hit the dew point every night here in Houston. The dew point averages probably 80F all summer long. That means it does not cool off at night. The big problem is that I wash my car about 7PM. By about 9PM the sun is down and the car is cooler since it got a cool shower. So water begins to condense on the surface of the car. I have only had this happen twice while waxing.

On the bright side. I have no problems with snow and ice. I don't have a need for a heated garage. I actually clean/wax my car more often in the winter. It is very tough to go out when it is 95F by noon with 80-90% humidity. The sweat just pours off of you and does not evaporate. It drops all over the paint while you are trying to wax.
